I'd just like to point out I can spell "recommendation." haha... just noticed my error. :(

Hi there.

After failing miserably in the monitors section of the forums. I've sticking to my favourite section, General Hardware. :D

I'm looking at doing eyefinity and I have a few questions other than the obvious.

I have a 6970... Would it be possible to use, two dvi and one HDMI or do I need to use the displayport? I've heard something about being active and passive. Not read much into that, if anyone could shed some light?

If I do need displayport, this would obviously limit my monitor choice. I was currently looking at the LG E2360V-PN. It looks smart IMO. However I seen on youtube someone was having issues putting them together nicely. As in, sitting next to each other smoothly. I do plan on buying a triple monitor stand down the line. Would this eliminate these issues?

If anyone can recommend me another monitor for around a similar price or cheaper that has thin bezels... then I'd like to see it.

I was also wondering how much of a performance hit my games would take from running these sort of resolutions?

I can currently max out battlefield bad company 2. Averaging 65FPS. What sort of frames would I expect over three monitors? 20? 30?

Not Important

The primary use wont necessarily be gaming. I do a lot of web design work and other productive tasks that tend to leave me craving more pixels to play with. I currently use the ATI desktop switcher and it's alright, but it's not the same as having three physical screens.

Anyway... Cheers for any tips.

For eyefinity one displayport needs to be used, but you can use an adapter to HDMI or DVI.

Not 100% sure but I THINK it needs to be an active adapter but wait for someone else to confirm.

Thanks for that. I thought the displayport had to be used. I'm sure i've seen some people mention it had to be active. Not sure what that means or what it is. I'm too lazy to Google for 20 mins. Wouldn't mind someone summing it up in 3 sentences :D Hint Hint :p

What do you think of the monitors I chose?

• A maximum of 2 legacy monitors (VGA, DVI or HDMI) can be enabled simultaneously, provided that each monitor is connected either directly or via a “passive” DisplayPort™ adapter/dongle. “Passive” adapters/dongles will NOT support more than 2 legacy monitors.

• To enable support for more than 2 monitors, “active” DisplayPort™ adapters/dongles are required (or monitors with direct DisplayPort™ connectivity must be used).

Cheers for that Surveyor. Your just a wealth of knowledge aren't you :)

What do you reckon to this monitor. It's a 24" Samsung... I normally like the sleek, glossy look. However for this I think it's best to stick to the professional range. Especially when I wont be using the stands supplied anyway. Better to put the money into a panel than a stand.

Eyefinity makes the GPU work harder so depending on your PC it will suffer a performance hit when gaming, not much but it be there, the GPU also has to draw more power and it will be hotter then with one display.

My 6950/70 currently runs at 68"c at idle, running one screen it drops down to 50"c+

As explained before, you need one monitor to have a Display Port or if you don't have one, you need an active Display Port adapter, I recommend the Sapphire's or XFX's if you can find them.

Are you looking into buying one extra monitor because you have 2 already? Or buying 3 new ones?

If you buying one, I recommend the HP LA2405wg, it has a Display Port already and is an 1920x1200 24" 5ms monster of a screen. :D

Retail they are about £240, but you can find them on eBay often for about £190-200.

I have 2 so far and all from eBay for just under £200, saved about £150 all together. Just need a third one now to replace my HDTV that am using as my third monitor.

I'm looking to buy three new monitors so all are matching. I currently have Samsung T260. Which is a gorgeous screen, just not ideal for adding another two for eyefinity. I was kind of hoping to keep the price to around the £160 mark per monitor. I couldn't justify £240 on a monitor.

I'd rather avoid the auction sites to be honest. I like have the confidence in buying from a reputable company with customer support and warranty claims.
