My Pet Birdeating Spider

Stupid thread, I now have one of these on the way:

Nice! Is that a p metallica?

How much did it set you back, if you don't mind me asking?

It's a Singapore Blue/Violet (I think the one I'm getting is a violet variety, so more purple than blue).

Was £15 for a 2.5-3cm sling/juvenile. Slightly more expensive than most and supposedly pretty agressive, so gonna be careful with this one :p

Yeah singapore blues are quite aggressive so I've read. Going to be a handfull when adult :)

Are you in the uk?

If so would you be interested in selling some Dubias to me?

Just noticed you are in uk, if you haven't got any for sale, any recommendations where to buy dubia? I ordered some off the net before but when they arrived they were nearly all dead.

If you go on RFUK classifieds there are loads of people on there selling tubs and colonies, i have used a guy called Alister a few times now, best prices by far and never had a single DOA :)

...That is a P.Metallica dude, pretty muych the most sought after spider in the hobby...and 1cm sling will cost you about £80 ;) with an Adult female easily fetching £250 :)

So if I buy a small one, keep feeding it crap I find in my garden (including birds) could I sell for a profit?

Quite diffcult to raise, need quite specific humidity requirements.

Any spider if you buy from a baby and raise you can sell for a profit...these have a tendancy of dieing...and its £80 for the baby, where as others will cost you less than a pint :p

Plus feeding them wild insects can cause death due to insecticides etc

Absolutly gorgeous spider though, but one not be messed with...plus it will hide 99% of its life, which is a shame :(

damn, that's another implausible make a million scheme.

How easy is it to raise one of the simpler tarantulas? can they eat smaller house spiders?

They probably would eat a house spider but I doubt they have much nutritional value, and I wouldn't really want to feed my pet something that could be carrying toxins/parasites.

Crickets are only £2 a tub, same price for locusts.

I'd love to have one of these although I'd probably never want to touch it and my lady would destroy me if I got one.

same :P i'd need a way to partion the tank so i could clean half then do the other half when the spider goes to the other side lol :D

They dont need cleaning :p

Only time you ever have to get it out, is to move it to a bigger house when it grows.

The do not benifit at all from being held, you are only running the risk of being bitten and / or dropping the spider, which even a few inches can kill them, so is in no way even worth it
