Hi all,

I recently bought an OCZ Vertex3 SSD. I am getting an average of 250MB/second read, according to HDTune.

I have a Gigabyte P67A UD7 motherboard and I am fairly sure I have the SATA connected from the SSD to the 6Gb/sec GSATA port. (I will double check this).

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply Awahwah. I tried ATTP Disk Benchmark and I'm not getting the ~550MB/second read-write speeds. I am still getting ~250MB/second read-write speeds :( It's performing like I have it connected to a SATA2 port

I did set the GSATA3 and SATA3 to AHCI in the BIOS. I will double-check this again when I get home (in work at the minute).

I have no idea if 250MB/s is low but, like most things, you're unlikely to achieve the manufacturers theoretical maximums.

For best performance you want to use an Intel SATA3 port and not a Gigabyte SATA3 port.

That's interesting regarding the SATA3 and not GSATA3..

The drive should be around 550MB/sec and not around the 250MB/second mark.

I will switch the connections to the normal SATA3 ones when I get home.

Thanks for the help lads, I will post an update later on.

You may see better performance by using the Intel controller but don't expect to see the hypothetical maximum figures quoted by the manufacturer.

Yeah that's fair enough.

Two quick questions while I have you here :)

Should I use the Marvel IDE/AHCI driver from the Gigabyte Utility CD instead of the Marvell IDE driver? I did install the IDE/AHCI one when I installed Windows onto the SSD.

Can the firmware be updated on the SSD safely without data loss? i.e. I have Windows installed on the SSD and I was wondering can I upgrade the firmware without affecting the data?

I think I need to read up on this SSD stuff.. :)

As you're going to use an Intel port then you should install any Intel drivers if you haven't already.

If you look at the OCZ site it states "Max performance achieved using Native SATA 6Gbps chipset", i.e. Intel in your case.

As far as the firmware update is concerned then have a look here:

Hi, sorry to hijack slightly, but with the rig in my sig (below) i'm getting around 350MBps read times on CrystalDisk v3, but less than 90MBps write speeds, which although double the read speeds of my vertex 2, is about 20MBps less on the write speeds. In fact ALL my write speeds are less than the Vertex 2.
The Vertex 3 IS plugged into one of the Sata 6GB ports.
Someone mentioned disk alignment (?), but i'm not really clued up on this.
I used Acronis True Image to clone from the Vertex 2 to the Vertex 3.
I've also read bad things about firmware 2.06 (which is what i'm on), but i've not suffered any BSODs from it yet.
Could the fact that i'm on an older chipset be the difference?
