My first build

Intended mainly for gaming, i'm gonna overclock it but not push it too hard.

Anything seem amiss? Incompatability, or other kit that could do a better job? I'm lookin to keep it under £1,500.

A few pointers,

A 2500K is just as quick in games - http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/288?vs=287

A Samsung F3 or Seagate Barracuda 7200.11/12 is as fast as that WD Black drive.

A XFX Modular PSU is good and made by Seasonic just like that Antec - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-001-XF&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1497

there is no difference between the i5 2500k and the i7 2600k in gaming terms, so save yourself ~£75 and get the i5 2500k

asus motherboards have been having more than their fair share of problems, so i would avoid them and go for MSI, gigabyte or Asrock

get the thermalright silver arrow cooler. its cheaper and way better than the H60. however, if you are planning on transporting your computer a lot then it would be best to go for the H60 with the free fan

8GB of ram isnt needed for gaming - 4GB is fine. however, at its current price theres no reason not to go for 8GB

go for the windows 7 + 500GB hard drive bundle. gets you just as fast a hard drive, and saves a bunch of money

the SSD is really small, so you wont be able to get anything except for windows 7 on there.



what budget were you looking at for all this?

The usual stuff.

A 2500K is all you need for gaming.

Get a 1TB 7200 RPM drive for around £40 (Samsung F3 or Seagate 7200.12). Cheaper, bigger and just as fast as the WD Caviar Black.

4GB of RAM is enough for gaming. Get 8GB if you want to while it's cheap.

What's wrong with 2 of these:

MSI ATI Radeon HD 6950 OC Twin FrozR III Power Edition 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with FREE DIRT3 Game

£10 cheaper than the Sapphire and neither is unlockable so that won't make any difference.

unless ive done something very silly, this should be roughly the same price as what you had in mind (excluding the £107 3D vision kit), but way better, especially in the 3D area

Nice one.

Probably will go for the i5 i really just wanted the i7 for the sake of it.

I'm only wanting to put the OS on the SSD but dropping the i7 could free up cash for a bigger one, Intel the best make atm i hear?

The HD bundle looks ideal sweet

Asus mobo not so hot eh? was reading they were quite good.

Want a 120hz screen, was lookin at the BenQ and LG ones as well, Asus seemed to get the best reviews.
