How much do you actually download ?

Average about 20GB down & 3GB up a month
how are you people measuring what you download each month ?
is there some form of software that shows you that ?
Running DD-WRT custom firmware on my router (see router database here for compatibility). Gives Traffic by Month, Bandwidth Monitoring, etc. & lots of other useful features over stock/factory firmware

Half that of FTTC, nice. My next house will have to be able to get FTTP.

I get 5-6ms to BBC on Be fastpath in SW London. I'm disappointed FTTP isn't closer to 1-2ms!

For reference, this is part of a traceroute of an FTTP installation in my home town (aka the most boring place on earth):

Code:
Tracing route to quakeworld.ipgn.com.au [210.50.4.11]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms home.gateway.home.gateway [10.0.0.1]
2 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms nexthop.tas.iinet.net.au [203.215.13.247]
3 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms bundle-ether2.hba-pipe-bdr1.iinet.net.au [203.215.13.40]
4 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms GigabitEthernet2-2.bth3.Hobart.telstra.net [203.45.3.105]
5 2 ms 1 ms 1 ms GigabitEthernet5-0-0.bth-core1.Hobart.telstra.net [203.50.106.130]
6 29 ms 30 ms 15 ms Bundle-Pos4.exi-core1.Melbourne.telstra.net [203.50.11.20]
7 14 ms 13 ms 13 ms Bundle-Ether1.lon70.Melbourne.telstra.net [203.50.6.2]
8 13 ms 13 ms 13 ms optusc.lnk.telstra.net [165.228.132.194]
9 13 ms 12 ms 12 ms 119.225.40.254
10 13 ms 13 ms 13 ms vl05.sw01.mel.iprimus.net.au [210.50.233.193]
11 13 ms 13 ms 13 ms ge1-1.sw02.mel.idc.iprimus.net.au [210.50.0.10]
12 13 ms 13 ms 12 ms quakeworld.ipgn.com.au [210.50.4.11]

To the person downloading roughly 500 GB in 2 and a bit weeks. Without sounding rude, do you have time to do other things in life?

I also wasn't aware that downloading TV shows was legal?

I probably don't take down more than 50GB a month but this month will be more, just got hooked on "Medium" tv series and in the middle of a 70GB download of all seasons. *By download I mean ordering the dvd box sets from amazon*
Will take around 24hrs to download 91 hours worth of video, and I already have a 300gb backlog to watch.
Now all we need is for the F1 to be on IplayerHD :D

It's BT's traffic management stopping it being closer to 0ms.

Er... I doubt it, more likely the number of hops. Also depends how far from docklands you are?

Would be interesting to see a tracert from a UK FTTP not just an AUS one.

It's been a slow few weeks for me! :(

can i just ask, what are people d/l as some of you d/l a lot of stuff each month.

I am always worried about downloading in case my isp sends me emails.

I have seen threads on here where some legal company has got in touch with a user saying they have downloaded this or that and are threatening them with legal action.

I am guessing it has to be programs and movies. As what else is there.

Torrents is how you get caught, they go after up-loaders, I got done by Energis in 2002 (couple of times) for sharing some adobe and norton shizzle over hotline.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Energis

Funny how they listed the files on the letters I got, listed the location of the files on my PC, date created, everything.

So, if that is the case.

Anyone who downloads movies etc. Can be caught.

That is slightly worrying.

Via torrents yes, but why would you use torrents? unless you didn't know how to use a computer properly.

People who torrents deserve to get caught and they will sooner or later.

Well speaking for myself. I dont know of what else is out there?

Not sure how much we are allowed to speak of on here. But what else is there?

Everyday is a school day, were always learning.

Yeah, it does cost but its the only way to be safe, also it will max your connection constantly.

newsgroups would be the best choice, can be had for 9.99$ for unlimited SSL

is there a particular one i should look at. As I presume like everything, there are lots to choose from. Who are the big players, the ones most people use then.
