I would like to water cool my sapphire 6950 xfire gpu's. i have the coolermaster 690II advanced case. I all ready have the corsair H70 for the cpu and that runs realy cool. What would be the best way and what radiator, fans, water blocks and pump would best suit my needs for this project. The cards do get hot, maxed at 90c.Would like to bring the temps of them down and as i have only ever air cooled, some advice would be appreciated.

EK FC6970 block (fits 6950)
Black ice 360 rad?
D5 pump (MCP655)
EK multioption res
Any fans
Lamptron fan controller
EK CPU block?

I would get rid of the H70 and integrate the CPU into your loop.

What case is this and what's your budget

i think its like lego. buts its a pain if you dont have the right bits and i hate doing it once its done its great.

so plan your loop before taking everything apart. make sure you know how the tubing is going and there are no kinks

computer is silent while browsing when i game just turn 4 fans on slow and still good temps

Thanks for all your help guys. not sure about a complete loop yet, incl cpu. As i have just upgradded to the H70. Not to worried about the cost though so may keep that one for my next build. Think water cooling will be the way to go. I have also now i have seen your rigs in the gallery and the advice you have given me , started my list of parts.
How does this sound so far?
Alphacool NexXxos ATXP ATI 6970/50 Blocks
" " Extreme II 240 Rads. Thin at top and thick at bottom.
Aquacomputer twin connector block for Xfire
Laing DDC-pump DDC-1T
XSPC Laing DDC res dual bay 5.25

I'm currently running a 690 II with 2 240mm rads (1 top, 1 bottom) and cooling my cpu and gpu and I can say that the only time the pc is silent is when it's off.

Loudest PC I own.
I'm running Akasa Vipers as my radiators fans and if they go over 1000rpm they are very noisy. My pump (Swiftech MCP35X) is also loud if it's going over about 66% (PWM controlled).
And as stated before, temps are not great (CPU idles between 30-35ºC, gpu between 35-40ºC. Under load cpu gets to around 45ºC and GPU gets close to 50+ºC).

I even the people that say they have silent PCs with watercooling, my pump alone stops it being silent. I'd be happy with quiet!

Also, I think you'd struggle with a 280mm rad (not that you've said you're buying one) because although it has holes for 2 140mm fans on the top you need to mount the fans on top of the chassis (below the grill/mesh cover) and I don't think you could fit 140mm fans between the top of the chassis and the cover without some modding of the case.

they look fine. However, my personalpreferences are:

EK FC6970 block
Black ice GT stealth 240 rad for the top
Black ice SR-1 240 rad for the bottom
Alphacool VPP655 or Swiftech MCP655 D5 pump. (more powerful than DDC)
Your res is fine, but you could get the EK res with a top for the D5 pump
For the x fire connectors, I think that tubing looks better - that's just down to personally preference.

Make sure you get enough of the correct fittings. compressional fittings are the best

GoogalyMoogaly your pump must be faulty. Ive had every pump you can buy and none are loud. Have you got all the air out.

Your temps are good

and fan controller for your fans

my computer can run with no fans at all when just on the net.

I even think i could game in the winter without fans

It's the second pump I've had and they've both made some noise. Since this one is more powerful than the previous pump it makes more noise.
I do have a fan controller for my fans but the temps get too hot if I turn them down. Remember I do only have 2 x 240mm rads, so not a lot of cooling area (for a 6 core Phenom II and 4870x2).

Anyway, don't want to turn this into a thread about my issues. Was just trying to offer the OP a slightly different viewpoint. Although I do seem to be the only person that doesn't have a super cool, super quiet (or even silent) pc...

Thanks again guys. Cleeecooo i have taken your advice on the gpu blocks as i have seen a few poor reviews on the alphacool blocks.
I have also seen the Koolance res with the dual pumps would it be better to have a dual. One for the cpu and a seperate one for the gpus, and also watercooling, would i have to upgrade my psu. at the moment i have the XFX 850 Black.

them pumps should not be loud. Ive had Mcp350 3 mcp355 18w and 1 mcp355 12w amd a d5 not one has been loud. I have heard people have had loud ones tho. Have you got all the air out your loop.

What rad.s and fans do you have.

Ive got a 360 and a 120 with a 2600k and gtx480sli with temps about the same as you.

the PSU is fine.

It's better to have it all in one loop as it reduces clutter and the temp difference is negligible.

As for getting the air out of the loop, that's one issue with the CM 690 II, with the rad being at the top it's quite possible that air is collection up there. I've tried tilting the PC in all 4 directions and that cleared some, but it's hard to tell if it's cleared it all.

I've got an XSPC RS240 rad in the top (as I think it's one of the few that will fit) and an EX Coolstream XT 240 in the bottom. I will say to the OP here that with the RS240 I found it was a bit tricky to get the fan cables down past the rad (remembering they sire on top of the metal part of the chassis), I believe the Black ice GT stealth 240 rad might be wider which may cause more issues (but it may be fine, I've not tried one).

As for fans, I used the theory that everyone loved Apaches on heatsinks and Vipers are better than Apaches, so I used them on my rads. I've bought some Gentle Typhoons though, I just need to get around to fitting them.

I'm also hoping to replace my 4870x2 with a GTX480 in the hope that a single GPU will kick out less heat (I know it sounds silly expecting a 480 to be cooler than something, but...)
I'm not sure what CPU the OP has, but my worry (and this may be complete rubbish but seems logical to me) is that with the Phenom II having a max safe temp of 62ºC, I don't want to put in a graphics card that will kick out too much heat as this would surely affect the cooling of the cpu (i.e. if the 480 is running at 57ºC then surely that'll heat up the water more than the CPU and thus affect the CPU cooling.
For this reason I'm considering, much like the OP was, to go with dual loops to isolate the heat from the GPU. Since you've tried various pumps, how much difference is there between the 10W (MCP350?) and 18W (MCP355?) pumps? Is the 18W one worth the extra £5 (it apparently does 600lph as opposed to 400lph). Would this make much of a difference if each loop is only cooling 1 thing?

Hopefully some of the stuff I've mentioned/raised will be useful to the OP too (as I really didn't want this to be about me, but I'll take any opportunity to get a little advice/help. Sorry OP).

with my HAF X build, the rad was at the top. I sealled everything and secured it all, then turned the case upside down and tilted side to side. Works perfectly :)
