Hey, I've had my Desire since it came out over a year ago now, I'm not very up-to-date with what's new and what I should go for next?

I hear the names bandied about like Galaxys etc but not sure what new features there are that would make me want to upgrade apart from better screens and graphics? I know there are better games but I don't really play games, they are too fast, I can only manage Championship Manager 96/97.

Samsung Galaxy S 2 or the HTC Sensation are the two I'd find it hard to choose between. I'm just upgrading my main handset from a Desire and I've gone for the SGS2 purely because I'd have to wait for a Sensation and I'm impatient. ;)

Between the HTC Sensation and Galaxy S II, it's pretty simple.

You should ALWAYS go for the Galaxy S II initially, unless there is something you don't like about it. If you love HTC Sense, you probably won't like the Samsung UI, but it's decent and can be (mostly) removed.

If you think light = cheap, you won't like the feel of the Galaxy S II either.

Other than that it has the Sensation beaten at everything, and while the differences aren't huge, they are pretty big.

Galaxy S 2 I would recommend overall:

- Better camera/video recording especially in low lit areas
- Better screen overall IMO - (sensation is much sharper though)
- more RAM, a lot more internal storage
- slightly quicker, but a lot smoother throughout the UI especially the web browser
- better battery life
- thinner and a lot lighter
- Better codec support out of the box and can play nearly every film file etc. thrown at it perfectly fine, where as the sensation can't (using moboplayer)

etc.

The only things that the sensation is better in than the GS 2 is the feel/build quality (nothing wrong with the GS 2 build quality though) and sense V3, although if your putting a case on, the feel/build quality won't really be a factor worth considering and if your into your own customizing and replacing stock apps with 3rd party apps then sense won't be an issue for you either.

Not much of an upgrade to the iphone 4 from a desire really, desire IMO is better still.

Plus considering the price of the iphone 4, you might as well get a dual core android mobile considering it is pretty much leaps ahead in terms of hardware etc. especially the GS 2, which is better at virtually everything.

The Iphone 4 is better than the Desire no two ways about it, Its better than the Desire HD after owning them all.

The choice is simple if you love Sense this is the way to go if you are not bothered get the GS2 as its the best android phone out and beats the Sensation in everway.

If you can wait a bit longer there are rumors the new Nexus is out near Christmas time which will have great specs, HD screen, faster dual core cpu's a proper camera sensor this time so should be the dogs so to speak.

i've had my desire 15 months, i might upgrade at the end of this year if the nexus 3 has a good spec.

if not i'll see what is available when my contract runs out.

There's no major features on new phones worth upgrading for then at the moment? In terms of capability or new features, it's just better specs of existing features like camera, storage space etc?

What would you call a 'major' new feature?

I'd say the Galaxy S II is a major upgrade over a HTC Desire. Obviously the longer you leave it the more major the upgrade will become as technology moves on.

What are you expecting for it to go to work for your its a phone all they are going to do is make it better in every department.

Pretty much, but the dual core does help improve a lot of things, like handling flash HD perfectly fine, playing every game nice and smoothly including tegra 2 ones (need to root though), much better camera 1080P recording, which is outstanding in terms of quality and smoothness and of course playing media files/films perfectly fine as well.

Plus I am sure now with dual cores out and more coming out shortly, there will be android apps coming out that will use dual etc. to its full potential.

People have upgraded from their desire and from what I have read they are very happy that they did so.

Best thing to do is go and have a play with the sensation and GS 2 and see what you think.

EDIT:

I think he just means new features in general like 3D (coming soon) and NFC (nexus S has it) and other stuff, which is actually brand new, not just improvements.
