What Should I get after HTC Desire?

The Desire HD is NOT generally as smooth as the dual-core phones, it isn't much different to the Sensation but the Galaxy S II feels streets ahead of it, even if it's overclocked and what have you.

Yup - DLNA streaming.

nope - no conversion.

720p recording is fine, no large/frame skip. Agreed that light metering isn't the best though.

yes, no problems at all. Silky smooth. I've even loaded the 3d anims from sense 3.0 and no slowdown at all.

As I said, it's probably all rom based - if you've only experienced a stock on on geh DHD then that probably explains your viewpoint.

Could you upload some videos of it playing those MKV files on your TV and a video of the web browsing on your mobile, just scrolling around on an image intensive page and one where HD flash content is playing?

I honestly can't believe that, sorry.

Have you used a GS 2?

Sure, I'll upload tonight.

I don't know if you've misunderstoop me though, I'm not saying it's as good as an SGS2, simply that I think the benefits of dual core etc are overhyped.

I'm skipping the SGS2/Sensation in favour of what the next generation brings - I usually upgrade every two generations.

Of course they are overhyped, it is a PHONE after all :p

I do think that the Desire HD was a bit of a strange phone for HTC to release, it has sold very well but it wasn't that big of an upgrade over the original Desire and they should have put more effort into the Sensation instead :(

I concur - only got the DHD as my Desire went through the wash - perfectly happy with the Desire otherwise and would have probably upgraded to the SGS2. But I've used my yearly upgrade up so I now need to wait.

Sensation is a no go upgrade wise due to it being signed.

Still happy with the DHD though - the great dev community this phone has attracted is astounding.

Nope, I haven't misunderstood your points at all, I understand what you mean, as there really isn't too many benefits of dual core at the minute, but I am sure come very shortly that there will be apps and games (already some) that will utilise it more and come the next big android update, maybe even more improvements for dual core mobiles. Only time will tell :p

I just find it hard to believe from what you have said so far, that the DHD copes with those things well and as good as the dual core mobiles available.

As for me those are pretty big/good reasons to get dual core.

Although the other reason as to why the GS 2 is super smooth is due to Samsung using GPU acceleration through out the system.

The benefits of all these phones are overhyped. None of them does anything fundamentally new or different that actually matters that a Nexus One or a Desire didn't do a year ago. There has been no leap forward, there has been no major generational change, just more and more features being added to justify the expense of upgrading.

I appreciate some people simply cannot cope without the ability to record high definition 1080p video from a mobile telephone, but if you go back to the fundamentals what exactly is new?

I'd say the bump to proper HD screens is quite significant, but beyond that, you have a valid point.

I'd like to see a proper revolution in battery life, it seems the days of getting 5-7 days out of a full charge with even average usage is gone.

You're still banging this old drum, huh? :o

The Iphone 4 is better than the Desire no two ways about it

no two ways about it? that doesnt mean what your saying is fact....I can give you a 100 reasons why both have a place in the market with neither being better than the other.

the s2 seems to be the best phone out there atm, critically aclaimed, good screen, recording, functionality seems like a good bet and would be my go to phone if my contract was up.

Why wouldn't I be? It's totally true.

We are only buying new handsets because we are addicted to shiney new toys.

Not really - upgrade was due and got it free - and it's night and day difference compared to the desire.

I agree, I've had my Desire since launch and am very happy with it but I know once it comes upgrade time in August I'll swap it for a new shiny gadget that has a lot of extra features I'll never use! :D

It's really not. You just think it is. Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to a shiney new phone myself but I'm not kidding myself that it's anything more than the same experience as a Desire, or a Galaxy S 1, or whatever, just a bit more polished, a bit more tech spec, a bit nicer User Interface, etc etc...

In literally every major department I prefer the SGS2 over the Desire - its faster, smoother, better camera & video, more storage, better looking, better screen, better speaker, lighter, plays flash better, plays all my HD vids, MHL tv-out, better graphics...

Night and Day EXPERIENCE OVERALL.

Do you know what 'night and day' means in the context you are using it?

When something is considered 'night and day different' it's considered to be completely different - ie, the opposite - hence, night and day.

What you are describing is an 'improvement in every way' not 'night and day different'.

OK I did exaggerate - but the difference between the 2 for me are soo vast that's how I felt. Put it simply I'd hate to go back to a desire now - it's like you going from a Desire to a Hero.
