**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

Have any terran players experimented with mass Marine - mass raven combo? Ravens are pretty gas heavy so marines should work well with them as they need no gas to be produced, only upgraded...

I can't see that combo working in any matchup. How did you come up with that?

Experimentation against the AI... I've found once you get to more than 6 ravens then you can unleash havok, but actually getting to that point can be hard, you need to be active with your marines in order to not die.

something that might work early-mid game against Protoss maybe (before they get colossi), PDD is quite nice against stalkers. but in general, i'd avoid it. hard to pull off

I ran into some the other day that really annoyed me, i don't mind BM at the end of a game that much, to be honest if i get cheesed I hardly ever GG.

This guy beat me in a decent game (i'm platinum, hes diamond), I GGed and quit, he then started messaging me about how **** I am at the game, how he hates terran "noobs" and how i should l2p.

Really ****ed me off, wanted to find out where he lives and give him a damn (can i say damn?) good beating.

Never really felt this way before

Use the ignore button.. or just watch him BM you and just think how much better you are that you don't need to do that! :p

GG He beat somebody in a lower league. big man!

I can't find it now but there is a build to that effect on team liquid strategy section somewhere. Some pros used it for a bit - it was actually most effective vs zerg, but you need amazing micro to do it effectively as otherwise banelings stomp all over you.

I also had someone went mass ravens against me in a tvt. Had never seen it before and lost, ravens are actually surprisingly hard to kill if you get like 6 plus of them as you can do continuous PDDs to stop vikings hitting them, and mass turrets to hit the marines.

Haven't seen it since though so not sure if I'd fare any better now. They key though is that if you see someone doing this strat you need to hit them hard before they can mass them up (or conversely if you're trying it you need to watch for the push as your defence will be very weak). Because ravens are so gas intensive they need 2 bases and will have basically no other units except marines.

Yeah it works better when you only use 1-2 ravens along with Banshee/marine.. extreamly effectie against a Protoss player that has JUST expanded.

Same goes for against Zerg, problem is they can just mass up a bunch of lings/bling and take out all the ground forces while they defend against air with their queens/spores.

I think its only effective when you have the element of surprise. and you need to be skilled or against an eejit...

I'm still in Silver, so I'm finding it either works really well or not at all... I think there is a lot to be said for the element of surprise. :)

Yep, when trying it against real people as opposed to the AI, I tend to lose quite a bit especially compared to the usual MMM combo...

I find the seeker missile works well against Colossi, but often I get the upgrade too late.

I'll keep playing around with it, I'm not really that worried if I lose a few games really...

To be honest you're probably better off sticking with a more standard build if you're trying to get better. If you're content just messing around then go for it!

Talking of getting better, I can't believe how frustrating this game can be sometimes. Was doing well and finally pushing my way to the top of my diamond division when I managed to go on a 9! game losing streak. Literally losing to everything - muta harass when I forgot turrets, 1 base baneling busts (twice in a row), 4 gates etc! Will take me days to get back those loses now :(

Sometimes I feel I should just be content with where I've got to having worked my way all the way up from bronze having never played Brood War, but then something just keeps pulling me back in!

I have losing streaks all the time.I hate them. When I am on a losing streak and none of my builds seem to work,I quit the game and play again after a few days.

Its like being on a tilt in poker. I sometimes get them, especialy after being cheesed or loosing when I really should have won. You just go 'ugh' and playing like that just makes you do worse and compounds it.

Yeah when it happened to me it was late at night, and I said to myself I'm not going to bed until I win a game. Finally won one at like 2am when I was knackered, and presumably my matchmaking rating on bnet had fallen so far I was playing noobs!

I do the exact same thing! You don't want to go sleep on a loss! You want some good feelings of a win :p
