So, i've just bought a new car.

To be fair whilst much of what you say makes sense I do wonder how you came to this conclusion when his opening post is fretting about how much money £190 a month is to him.

Oh. I missed that bit where he said 'a lot of money'. But, I'm sure the OP has considered it fully and concluded that the convenience of a decent reliable car is worth the commitment.

Not sure what the 1.2 is like but the 1.6 is a very competent runner, low cabin noise and near silent engine for a small car. Didn't feel thirsty at all.
Wait, what? I didn't know they did a 1.6 in the new model, are you sure this wasn't a Mark 4? Unless you're referring to the TDI, but that thing isn't exactly fast or quiet, even in 90PS form.

Quite interestingly the Polo only came with a 1.2 petrol engine when I looked at it - the 1.2 TSI chucks out 105PS though which is kind of impressive I guess.

OP - is £190 a month a big chunk of money from your monthly income or are you worried because you have not spent that sort of money on a car before?

Personally I think that its a reasonably good deal when you add it up and include the 3 years servicing.

As for posts such as "unlucky" and "£190 for a Polo is beyond me" etc; who gives a **** if its beyond you or if you think its unlucky. What has luck got to do with buying a car? No one cares whats better for you, or what you think is a better deal.

The new Polo is a decent car and the OP has got himself a reasonable deal on a brand new one to suit his needs.

No one cares whats better for you, or what you think is a better deal.

Please do not try and speak for everyone, I and I am sure a many number of other posters care both about what car would be better for me and the better deals available to the OP with this kind of money.

Ok I will speak for myself (although Im sure no one cares what I think :D). When I come into a thread about the OP buying a new car, I dont care if other posters consider it a bad deal for themselves. Why you would be interested in finding a better deal for the OP when he has already done the deal (and its a reasonably good deal) is, to quote a previous poster, "past me".

better deals or better cars ?

because the latter is entirely subjective. It seems to me that the deal is alright for a brand new car. Assuming his P/X is as much of a heap as he says it is and they haven't done him over on the P/X.

"things" being whether we think he should buy a VW Polo or a Skoda Fabia

or whether he should be borrowing somebody else's car at all (i assume it this is a lease deal ? )

Captain obvious is obvious.

The guy has already made his decision just stop bickering about it please.

I was replying to panthro who didn't seem to like that certain people wanted to talk about certain things despite being relevant to the topic, it may seem obvious to you, I and many other people but clearly he did not understand the concept so I was trying to help Please try to be less abrasive.

So we can only agree with his decision?

I like the new polo but not at 12.5k for a 1.2.

I hope not.

It's a horrible car for £200 a month and i'd much prefer to wipe my arse with £10 notes instead as i'd probably get more satisfaction.

A £3500 Ford Fiesta or even a VW POLO is arguably better than a brand new one and you've saved A LOT OF MONEY!

But as someone has said. Some jokers have to take the hit on new cars so the sensible people have a decent second hand purchase available to them. :)

I don't like seeing fellow OcUKers shafted out of money so if my post may seem harsh then it's only to make them aware ;)

Have to try harder than that to impress me im afraid! The Rover 214 from 1989 put out 103 bhp from a 1.4 engine.

Oh I do love it when people are attacked for buying new.
I was originally asking about the lease terms - because £190 per month means nothing without the other figures.

People who buy new cars are in no way "jokers".
They like the idea of a new car that they know the history of, 3 years of warranty/no need to MOT etc.

I won't say it just seems to be jealousy - but it almost feels that way.

Yes I am sure many members on here are jealous they do not drive a 1.2 Polo.
