Overreaction or a genuine cause for concern?

He was taking pictures of a kid, not doing any of the above. Strange post.
What if he was using the kid as distraction while he took pictures of the place he was going to rob, blow up, or save someone from as superman.

He was taking pictures, in public, in front of people, the parents dont know what kind of shots he was after, maybe he was testing his kit outside with different settings hence all the same shots with the same pose.

You have to admit it does sound strange though.

It doesn't sound strange unless you are an idiot. There are a million and one things that other people do that I would think are a little odd. I don't confront them about it and usually after a few minutes though you can come up with a plausible explanation.

Did you not ever think that the fact the guy didn't seem chatty was because a stranger was accusing him of being a paedo?

What would seem strange would be a paedophile lugging all that equipment out in public in the middle of the day and letting everyone see.

Guess we'll never know but I would have thought pedos would keep it behind doors not out in the open, but if you find something out of place sometimes we should act on instincts.

No pedo is going to be stupid enough to do his deeds in a public place with strangers watching.

Strange, but I'd say an over-reaction

Even funnier is that hes hardly going to say no its not my kid if he was a paedo would he.

If someone said that to me id say no hes not my kid and let them phone the police,

Sometimes i wish a big asteroid would hit earth and wipe us all out with the way society is turning out when you cant even take pictures without being suspected of being a terrorist or a paedo.

Some of the "better to be safe than sorry" comments in here are a bit ridiculous.

Up until about 10-15 years ago I would agree. Unfortunately, with the intrawebs, we live in a pretty sick world now. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying everybody should go around questioning people taking pics of kids - I'm just saying that if somebody got a bad vibe and wanted to check they should be encouraged to do so. It's not like the OP's parents went running up shouting "get away from him you PEDO!!!!!!" with pitchforks in hand.

Live in a sick world now? It's always been a sick world, it's just more visible now.

You couldn't distribute dodgy pics around the world in a matter of seconds until recently. You would have had to develop the pics yourself in the bathtub at home and sell them in the backstreets in a plain brown envelope.....I'm guessing :D

Yes, there have always been pedos, but these days it's like their Xmas and birthday rolled into one.

wtf, so this guy rocks up with camera gear, and takes pictures of a child, not naked, not suggestive just a picture of a child in front of a hedge.. your parents see fit to tell him they dont think its right, then take a photo and report it to the police!!!

do you think if he was a pedo he would really be going out to a public park and taking fully clothed pictures of a child not doing anything remotely sexual... sounds like they overreacted massively

Give over. It's just the papers love to make out like there's a pedo in every hedge.

Oh FFS this shows what's wrong with the media driven world today. Seems anybody taking pictures of children are now nonces.

"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.".

Did you really use that quote in this context? I think Vonhelmet sums it up well.

Suggesting that all that is needed for evil to be stopped is a lack of common sense and an abundance of nosiness falls somewhere between Orwellian and idiotic.

What if his parents did mind their own business and he did turn out to be a paedo?

Better be safe than sorry imo.

Do you know what your neighbours are up to right now? Or their neighbours? Or the guy down the street that looks a bit dodgy? Better be safe than sorry and watch them and report any odd activities to the police. Why not let the Government do it, say by CCTV in each house, then you can feel safe and have such burden taken off your conscious.
