Teachers on strike

For every teacher that puts in 3+ hours extra work a day, there is one who scrapes through on the absolute bare minimum, without a care for the people they are teaching or any teaching standards.

In my experiences its more than one who scrapes through, I'd say over the decades , its been more like For every teacher that puts in 3+ hours extra work a day, there are 4 who scrape through on the absolute bare minimum, without a care for the people they are teaching or any teaching standards (and that number has been increasingly steadily over the last 10-15 years imo)

There are some truly fantastic teachers out there, but from my experience there are a hell of a lot who shouldnt be teaching, scrape past copy/pasting reports, use youtube to teach a lesson by putting it on and thats the lesson, sit on facebook during the class and use software to do work marking for them so that they dont have to and stayed in the job just long enough to get the £10,000 payout when applicable to help clear their student debts.

Its kind of a career of extremes, the good ones are really REALLY good, the poor ones are god awful and probably do more harm than good.

I'm at work, and so is the rest of the teachers, it's the canteen staff that decided to strike for us.

everyone deserves a good pension!

You have said some utter drivel in the threads about the teacher strikes, but this just about tops it all. If we want a good pension, we pay for it. Simple.

Why, out of interest, does everyone deserve a good pension? Is it a birthright?

Well that really is poor form :p.

Where were the Tories during the last decade? they sat back and watched Labour let the banks go wild and not once do I remember them speaking up in the commons about how the banks needed to be more heavily regulated.

In fact, Cameron and Osborne were busy advocating for less regulation right on the eve of the crash.

If anyone is to pay then teachers who voted labour during the previous two elections should be paying a higher percentage.

too busy laughing at a government who promised no more boom and bust probably:confused:

Im not moaning about my job. Im moaning about teachers who feel they should be immune from cuts.

You were moaning about it. Just because you enjoy working 50 hrs a week doesn't not mean everyone else should. We're the first generation to work longer hours than our forbears.

You just sound envious to me.

So where are they expecting the hole to be filled from?

What hole? they signed a contract saying company x will pay x amount of contributions towards your pension, they now want to slash that and make you pay more without gaining anything...How much you pay into your pension should be up to you. It is one reason I opted out of it

Enjoy your no doubt subsidised lunch :p

Actually i work in the private sector :p

About 10 seconds, I spotted it almost instantly lol

Perhaps "over analysed" was a better phrase to use ;)

As above. Certainly in Cambridge there is a rally going on which they've chosen to ignore. Whats the point in striking if its just for a day off drinking?
The very act of them not attending at work is striking. Some like to voice their concerns by joining pickets, some are happy just to protest by having a pint in the pub. :)

A highly responsible way of showing it it is too. Really makes a member of the private sector more sympathetic to their "cause" :).
