Hello Again Guys.

After all your very much appreciated advice, I think I have come up with a list for my new pc build. But I would love you guys to give it the once over and give me your opinions, advice, even criticism. It has meant a lot to me to be able to tap into your wisdom and experience. Now I'd just like your comments before I order anything. My original budget was £650, but I soon realized that wasn't going to cut it. So I got myself a loan for a couple of grand and hopefully I can now have a decent rig. Has far as the monitors are concerned, I don't know yet how many I will have, 1, 2 or 3. Who know's, not me. Really depends on what it will be capable of. Eyefinity, CrossFire, SLI or something, like I said, who knows.

Here Goes Then....

those graphics cards are very bad in crossfire as they take up three slots, leaving very little breathing room for the fans.

one question i do have is, why are you buying very many fans for that case? it would probably be better to get a case thats got better air flow to start with so you wont need to spend an extortionate amount on fans.

not having read (or having read and forgotten about) your last thread im also not sure:

- what you will be using the PC for
- why you have a seperate blu ray drive and DVD drive
- why you have a sound card (onboard sound is very good these days)
- why you have a RAM cooler. pretty much no computer will ever need one of these. it may also stop the CPU cooler from fitting

You don't need a RAM cooler.

The Samsung F3 is just as fast as the WD black and will save you £30.

SATA3 is irrelevant for HDD's as they can't even reach SATA2 speeds.

With those 2 graphics cards you won't be able to fit the sound card as they're 3 slots wide blocking all the slots apart from the top x1 PCI-E slot.

They'll also block the connectors along the bottom edge of the motherboard.

They'll also be right up next to each other so the top card will get pretty hot. The bottom card will be right on top of the PSU.

Edit

I don't think the graphics cards will fit in that case.

According to the spec. it takes cards up to 290mm long.

According to Asus the DirectCU II is 11.7" or 297mm long.

Even a reference 6970 is 11.5" or 292mm long.

Time for a re-think.

that sound card is a PCIe X1 sound card, so technically it would fit. however, as we have both said, since the graphics cards are triple slot cards, its really not good to SLI them

@the OP: its probably best for you to fire a few cases that you like the look (and price) of so we can tell you if they are good or not, because what i think looks amazing you may thing is hideous

This is a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Professional Series card:

It won't fit.

If they meant the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer 7.1 Sound Card then that won't fit either as it's PCI.

If they meant the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium - Fatal1ty Professional Series 7.1 Sound Card then that will fit as it's x1 PCI-E.

Who knows what the OP means?

The Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Professional Series is an old card.

If they're buying new it's probably one of the others I mentioned.

Hello.

This is exactly why I came to seek your advice. I fancied the possibility of CrossFireX but if these GPU's are unsuitable then give me some of your wisdom and specify what you think will work. The sound card isn't something I was buying, it's something I already have so leaving it out isn't a problem. In short please give me your ideas for a good game system. Around say £1800 and then i still have about £600 for the monitors and the gubbins needed to mount the monitors, also a good gaming keyboard, mouse and the like. In other words HELP!!!!!! please.

Love the second case you recommended, shown below.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-023-NX&tool=3

Amazing piece of kit and well recommended by past purchasers.

Right so lets say that's the case sorted for now, what's next, the Motherboard and CPU. AMD or INTEL ??????

Don't forget I would like 2 graphics cards, forget the sound card, but I would like to use CrossFireX or SLi in the future, and possibly Eyefinity.

So it's important to not just think of now but of the future too. I would like to think I am going to get a good few years use before I have to upgrade or even replace it.

Thanks for all the help and advice, it seems I need it, and not just with the case, I'm hoping you guy's are going to stick with me until I have a list of all the parts I need to complete the project.

There are the Monitors to consider to, but I suppose, first things first, let's get a shopping list first for the tower and everything that goes in it.

at your budget (i know its over £600, but what is the budget now?) there is no reason not to go with intel. their sandybridge processors demolish any competition

*edit*
can anyone tell me what the nvidia equivilant of eyefinity is like?

My total budget for everything, inc Monitors and the obvious Keyboard/Mouse stuff Is £2400.

I was looking at £1800 for the tower, and £600 for the Monitors and bits.

Obviously if i can get it below those figures that would be great, but not one penny more than £2400 for everything.

i would personally change the case to something better for cooling.

corsair 650d or haf-x.

sound card i would go for a asus as they are far superior to anything else on the market.

can i ask how old you are ?

i know it sometimes makes no difference how old you are but if your younger you might like flashing light's and if your old like me (43) you might want a case that is a bit refined in look's.

Hi Schizo.

I'll just put it this way, I'm a dozen years older than you in age, but very young at heart. Loved gaming ever since I bought my son's their first console, longer ago than I care to remember.;)

nice to see you are still in the loop for a gaming machine.

yes,the raven is a lovely case and have considered it myself on many occasion's.

it all come;'s down to personal preference on how you would like your case to be.

ive got a haf-x and before that i had a corsair 800d which to this day i regret selling :(

out of the last case's that have been mentioned the raven would be the choice for me now.

hope this somewhat helps you in your decesion :)
