Again: just because she drops the charges does not mean that it happened. And yes, if anything false-accusers are pursued more seriously, and often sentenced more seriously, than rapists: rapists can and do get off with cautions (yes, they can) but genuine false-accusers average about two years in prison.
As for Greebo's links, I should point out that two of them are presenting only one side of the story - and to quote Mandy Rice-Davies: "Well, he would say that, wouldn't he?"), and the last doesn't actually say who the accuser was - it certainly doesn't say that the alleged victim was.

One side maybe but you never get to hear the other side since they are anonymous. And of course the last one doesn;t say who the accuser was.
There are certainly some cases were the girl involved can;t go through with it but I do beleive that there are some cases were the guy is innnocent and his life is ruined.
There was one case (I;ll find the link later) where a few guys were accused by a girl of tying her up and gangbanging her. Unkown to her one of the guys video some of it it on his phone and she is is not tied up, she suggests it and after she finishes with each bloke she demands the next one for 2 or three of them. Jury said she consented and they were all found not guilty. Imagine how the result would have gone without the video? Loads of DNA evidence and a what was described by the prosecution as a "quiet church going girl" might have sent several young men down for years.
