Quite, and nobody has answered the question i asked when i revived it :p (Is it legal for the BBC to withhold policy details quoting 'The BBC considers the information in the policy appendices to be confidential.')

I just did a no tv declaration myself. I take it you have not had a visitation then?
 
They need to remove the license, which isn't a license anyway it's just another form of tax and include it in exactly that - another tax which already exists. It'd be easily done and mean we don't have to pay people to collect this "license" (there's a saving) as well as preventing the BBC from becoming increasingly unpopular due to the "license" required to fund it. Pay it directly from the exchequer, from taxes collected via income tax or even council tax. There are hundreds of methods we could use to collect the revenue required which would require no additional staff to be employed to do so.

Of course we'd also save a fortune on letters..

You still have to pay whether you watch BBC broadcasts or not, even foreign satellite broadcasts.
 
Meh, BBC is amazing. It'd be a huge loss if it went.

Besides, loads if other countries have TV licenses and their tv content is awful, so why people loan about the BBC is a bit beyond me.
 
Id let them in and show them exactly what you have?? Surely 30 minutes or less of agro is worthy of getting them off your backs for ever?

For arguments sake, lets say I have a friend in every country in the world, and we all watch Sky Sports and nothing else. :)
 
Don't forget the TV licence also pays for the BBC website and BBC Radio. Although IMo there are far too many 'local' stations in England. once on a journey down south i could get 6 'local' BBC stations on my car radio!
 
it should be a choice..... in that rather than buy the current TV licence, you have to buy or pay for a service of some kind... ie you either pay the BBC tax OR show you are paid sky subscriber... how sky and BBC split it is their problem....

why should someone who has sky, who watches nothing buy sky programs pay the BBC just because there is a theoretical possibility they can/will watch it....

grrrrrr.... just joining in the rant....
 
It's an outdated and petty tax. End of. Their programs are crap compared to most American TV series and the only good things they produce are factual programs or news coverage. They should be like any other operator who air their own shows. Pay a fee to subscribe to them if you so choose to do so. Havign Sky for example and never watching anything made by the BBC yet still having to pay a license fee is retarded.

Anyway /rant. Just ignore all letters and never answer your door to them. Again end of.
 
Personally, i'd pay it so i can watch Top Gear, Match of the Day, F1, The Apprentice, The odd movie and read BBC News website. Even though i watch all the shows on iPlayer, they still need to be funded.

Personally speaking, if you use iPlayer, you should "contribute".

Historically it is, since there was only the BBC when the act was introduced....
It is also currently collected by the BBC....

So although you're right in the strict sense of the act, it is mostly just a guise for the BBC to get "protection money" from the public...
 
You're wasting your time asking them to stop by all means (in person, letter, email, anything).

They wont stop.

My mum has had this for the last 5 years, tens of letters even though she has a license. They don't listen, they have issues with their systems.

She has even allowed them to take her to court - immediately after which they dropped the case without it going further (no contact, just dropped the case). The letters still come.

Let us not forget that the TV licence fee also pays for the BBC's radio service which is vastly superior to any other radio service in the country and has no adverts.

And before everyone chimes in with 'I don't listen to radio' well the breakfast shows on Radio 1 and 2 have combined figures around 15 million people. BBC Radio is worth the fee alone imho.
