Funniest IT Support Issue Raised.

I work in IT Support & Services for Businesses & Education etc and today im on the Helpdesk for remote support we dont not General Public so not the usual dumb requests but this one made me chuckle and i had to share.

BTW Female caller sounded old but not OAP old
Also I'm typing this from memory so may not of been word for word but it gives you the idea.

Me: Good afternoon Technical support how can i assit you
Caller: Hello i've been away from my computer for the last 4 weeks on holiday and now "The Internet is different"

Me: OK, no problem in what way is it different? Also are you infront of your PC now?
Caller: PC What's PC mean you will have to talk to me in english i don't know all this technical talk, do you mean the big box with the lights on?

Me: Yes sorry, PC meaning your Computer, in what way is the "Internet" different?
Caller: right yea ok i know what you mean now yes im infront of it now can you see it the internet is different? It wasn't like that 4 weeks ago.

Me: No I can't see your screen yet I may need to connect in to see your issue, but please describe in what way is it different?
Caller: Well I click on the internet thingy and it comes up with Google as it used too but now it's got this big black line through it and i don't like it?

Me: A black line is this down or accross the screen, also is it there on other web sites?
Caller: it's across the top and no it's just on Google nothing else.

Any way Back & Forth in discussion for a further few mins, I decide to remote into her PC. Luckily for me All I needed from her was the code on a sticker stuck to the front of her PC but it still took 3 or 4 questions from me on where to find this number, anyhow once connected she pointed out to me what she ment with the "Big Black line".

See this image to find out what she ment.

Bless this lady I had to just say it was part of an update Goolge did to improve it's website, She insisted she didn't like it now.

Made me chuckle inside while on the phone and shout out OMG when I finished on the call - Oh the Joys of Telephone support

Saw the answer right there. Do i get a point?

I had a similar thing recently where someone had contacted me 'urgently' about a virus that had infected their computer, and that it looked completely different now.

Windows updates had updated IE8 to IE9.

haha made me laugh.

Reminds me of one chap who called me about his new but broken second hand PC he just bought... He apparently threw his PC across the room because it didn't have google..

It worries me that you needed to connect to the woman's PC to know to realise that the black line she was talking about on Google and only Google was the recent update to the website. Can't get decent tech support these days! :D

I had one a few days ago from a user saying when she clicked the program in the taskbar it disappeared but if you hovered over the task bar icon you could see the preview pane. I went to see her and switched on her 2nd monitor, where she had dragged the program the previous day.

I had a lady the other day that said her computer was doing something "strange". Walked over and it was the xp screen saver....she hadnt logged in yet so wasnt her normal puppy screensaver.........

We get calls complaining the entire internet is down when the Intranet (their homepage) doesn't load, they seem incapable of just typing google.com into the address bar.

I've not had anyone want to go back to the old Google but I've had a person complaining that their Internet Tabs look more square than they used to and can it go back... that was going from IE8 to IE9

lmao xD

My lecture at college was once on tech support. A lady rang and said "I have spoken to my son and he said I should clean my laptop, so I put it in the dishwasher, however it now does not turn on." pmsl

I yea, it's almost as bad as one of my other customers sent me an email to report there email was down..... No they didn't use a different account like hotmail they used there own email address that was M/S Exchange and this is what was down.

of Course we never got the email and the fact it took the customer 2 days of being down before calling us up to find out what was happening with his support case.

another OMG day that was
