Hey All,

Digging into the pool of knowledge of OcUK :)

Since I have now finished my college course and am going to University in September I have been looking for a Job.

The Job is at a sailing cloths manufacture and ill have the role of "Mail Order Coordinator".

The company is much like the manufacture Crew.

What do you think I should wear?

I think a suit is too much and was thinking along the lines of a Jack Wills shirt, smart jeans and smart brown moccasins/loafer. Giving a smart casual look.

What is your opinion's?

Thanks

These threads come up quite often and there is normally a divide on what to wear.

I am firmly in the 'wear a suit - it's a job interview' camp

I think a suit is too much

The only time a suit is too much at an interview is when you have a letter from the interview board telling you not to wear one. Otherwise always wear a suit. Looking overdressed (in the unlikely event) is nowhere near as grievous a sin as looking underdressed, and is a lot less likely.

It is quite worrying that someone who is attending university in the near future has to ask strangers on a forum how to dress.

Wear a suit. It's never too much.

And a Jacks Wills shirt, you're joking right?

Like I said, this is my first ever interview, that is why I made a post as one input of advice. No need to troll what I said, just constructively criticise it.

Yet you still get people who have been employed for years asking the same question I have on these forums?

a suit is never too much for an interview

It's expected. Did you watch Eddie Stobart Trucks & Trailers recently ? they were interviewing for truck drivers. And the interviewer was astounded somebody didn't turn up smartly dressed as he turned up in jeans. And thats for a truck driver.

Just don't do it. If you think a suit jacket is too formal, then shirt , tie, black trousers and smart shoes will be enough in this weather. Nobody is going to think any less of you for not wearing a suit jacket in the current hot weather we're having.

Never ever wear jeans.

Unless its a properly professional place then smart shoes, smart black trousers, smart formal shirt and tie is enough, doesn't have to be a suit, infact if its retail a suit can often look out of place unless your going for a management/supervisor position.

How was I trolling you? Jack Wills shirts are casual shirts, you want a sharp, nice shirt. I buy mine from TM Lewin or M&S. Make sure you get the right size, ask in either of those shops and someone will measure you. Learn how to tie a tie, it should be at belt level. Good luck.
Oh, and we ridicule the older people as well.
