I just wonder if this will have a similar kind of impact as BF1942. Part of what made that game great was the scope you had, carriers that weren't stationary, cruisers, subs, being able to shell landing areas etc. I don't see anything like that being in BF3, theyve mentioned boats of some description but it'll probably be small fast moving boats. The Sea battles really just disappeared after 1942 and were replaced with much smaller Navel encounters.

Be nice to be able to go abord a Nuclear Sub and launch Tomahawk missiles etc. :(

Seems no mod tools has been confirmed:

GameStar: Will there be modding tools?
Söderlund: Well, as of now, we are not going to make any modding tools, no.
GameStar: Okay, why?
Söderlund: Because if you look at the Frostbite engine, and how complex it is, it’s going to be very difficult for people to mod the game, because of the nature of the set up of levels, of the destruction and all those things… it’s quite tricky. So we think it’s going to be too big of a challenge for people to make a mod.

Theyre saying "as of now", so basically, nope not ever. Can't have people cranking out free mods thats better than the DLC they have planned now can we..

Keep swinging that BS !, you want to sell those DLCS

So people are discounting the game completely just because they're trying to increase their profits? If people don't want to buy the extra content then that's fully understandable, but the game looks like it'll be great without them.

Is it a case of people thinking that the game will need to be modded/have extras added to be good, or is it merely a principle thing?

:EDIT: I heard a sales assistant in a games shop the other day ranting at a customer, he was saying "I'm boycotting Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3, as EA have said they'll be Origin only, and they can use your address, name and other details however they like" It was all I could do not to laugh, as he sounded like a complete ****.

Don't understand what you're laughing at, this is EA after all.

I'm not saying what he said isn't true, I have no idea if it is. What I found funny was that he sounded like a massive idiot. Oh yeah, he'll boycot it alright, just like all those people boycotted MW2.

I'm doing rather well thank you, still no sign of those dedicated servers though. :P

The lack of a SDK only means one thing, milk milk milk. I honestly don't play BC2 anymore because of the maps and the lag.

Enjoy your 6 'new' maps when in reality it's 2 maps just assets moved about to account for 3 different game types.

So? People that would normally buy map packs don't because they are able to get content through mods. It's just sensible business :p

I won't enjoy them, because I'm not the sort of person who buys map packs. If you feel that strongly about it surely the answer is just to not buy the map packs and enjoy the game as standard? Not buying the game at all - when you think it looks good and you would enjoy it - is just childish IMO.

Not spending my money on something that I don't think will last is more sensible I think. I'm not a money tree, I've been Pc gaming for years and map packs are a no no for me, they used to come free with patches or through people's work using a SDK (Dice making excuses why they won't release one is childish :p). I can save my money for a better game (no not MW3).

Counter Strike still gives me hours of entertainment to this day, BC2 doesn't...

This is one thing I totally agree with.

I have tried getting into bc2 multiplayer but it feels lackluster gameplay wise compared to the fluidity and easy handling of gameplay of cs source.

Although I enjoyed single player and found it a good practice for multiplayer. I guess I may need more time getting used to multiplayer.

Wont the karkand pack alone have 4 different maps? Nevermind the core game.

Not quite getting the massive hate toward DLC either. It's the business model for all developers now. They are businesses after all! Look at the money blizzard rake in for a mmo. FPS developers have to go this route.

If the game is pap no one will buy the dlc anyway and it will die an early death. If it's good then purchasing the dlc means the game will be kept fresh and supported beyond an fps's normal life cycle.

Also this looks like it will have a great MIX of vehicles and urban settings, with some maps combining the two. And folk are moaning about that? wtf! They are quite literally giving you the cake and letting you eat it too, it's not a lie either! Haven't really had that since DC. Can't wait.

Maybe so but modding is what gave BF1942 its longevity in the first place, the DC developers also contributed a lot to BF2. Just seems now that modding is taking a back seat to excuses as to why they won't release tools, its just like BF games these days are being more and more locked down and any user content is non existant.

At one point modding was part and parcel of these kind of games, now its just dlc dlc dlc. No more conversion mods like 1942 to desert combat, its really not a good thing :(

It seems to me it doesnt support DICE/EA's business model if they release a game that will last people as long as BF2 did/has. Unfortunately this means imo that it will be BC2.5 instead of a fresh game and then in another 1-2 years they will release BC3, splitting the community like BC2 did from BF2. Only way they can compete with MW  but I hope I'm wrong.

Cant handle the competition. The rise of modding came about due to the success of counterstrike, now the idea is you limit and charge for anything extra which I think has to be said to be the opposite idea

They based the whole of BFH off the concept, that should have been a console game

Sad news. Are DICE under EA's thumb or have they gone as greedy as them now?

They cant finance and publish their own games and they arent going to switch publishers
