OcUK Value IDE?

I'd spend my money on something else if I were you, if it fails after a year you'll have to buy another hard drive to replace that one, so you may as well spend more money on something which is of a 'good' quality and save yourself some money in the future.

Thing is I have an old USB caddy here, without a drive. I'm wondering since it'd only be used for half an hour a week for backups, whether something like this would be a good idea.

The real question you should be asking is "do i believe this drive to be reliable enough to hold my backups on?"

Do YOU think its reliable enough for your backups if they are WD returns?

gothic_hobbit, Justintime... won't help me fill the old USB caddy I've got though.
I think the point they're making is that you could get a brand new SATA drive, in a brand new caddy, for the price it would cost to put a second-hand drive in your existing caddy. A bit of googling turns up plenty of 500GB external drives for around £30-£40, and 1TB drives are only a few quid more.

I do sympathise with the feeling that it's a shame to leave old hardware lying around doing nothing, but sometimes it simply doesn't make economic sense to do anything else.
