Pretty sure it's new sales only yes. Selling a pre-owned console doesn't make more consoles "out there" as it was there before

I've been hoping I wouldn't have to create a new thread for this question but hopefully I can hijack this thread for a second and get an answer but would it be worth my time to purchase a XBox 360 at this time? I don't know how far away Microsoft's next console is but it's something that's been on my mind for the last month or so, I have no issues with my PS3 I love it but I have a bit of extra money and I figure if I can have the best of both worlds why not?

The Gears of War 3 limited edition console looks good I might preorder that for September but I'm just afraid I'll snatch it up only to find an article a month or 2 later with MS detailing their plans for the imminent release of their next console =(

The PS3 and Xbox user bases are actually pretty similar at the moment.

I personally don't think it's due to the number of console owners as there is maybe a 15% difference in the sales of top selling multiplatform games.

Then I thought maybe it's the genre, most of the top games in either list are shooters, mainly FPS and Halo seems to be one of the driving forces behind the strong sales for xbox. But PS3 has exclusive FPS' too...

Yes, buy one. Cheap and plenty of great games, not to mention a great online experience.

PS3 exclusives are far better than the 360 ones IMO.
The only 360 exclusives i'm interested in is Gears Of War.
I only really use my PS3 for it's exclusives.

How many on each list are recent releases btw? As far as i see it, the 360 has had a pretty poor couple of years for exclusives with the Halo franchise and Forza being the only two stand-out exclusives that i can think of.

But yeah ultimately, larger userbase = larger profits. Well duh?

Why do PS3 only owners always automatically discount all the Kinect exclusives and all the XBLA exclusives?

Exclusives are great on both consoles, Uncharted is excellent, everybodys golf is great but GT5 is pants and so are resistance and killzone

On the 360 Gears is great and forza is the best driving game I have ever played, Halo is a decent shooter but is far too overrated and kinect is a gimmick

A lot of the 360 exclusives that get overlooked are on XBLA there are some amazing exclusives on there dirt cheap

Due to me not owning any shares in either company - I don't care about these numbers and just play what I enjoy with complete disregard to how one is selling compared to another.

I could argue the same about the PS3, i have both but the 360's exclusives work for me.

Killzone ? give me gears any day
LBP i tried, many times, just cant get into it ..
MGS4, didnt like this too much either (too many cut scenes damnit!) but then i never enjoyed them after the first one either.

Uncharted? didnt like as much as Fable.
Resistance? didnt get as many hours as BC2 (yes yes, multi plat) or Halo: Reach probably for that matter.
GT5 or Forza ? Forza held my attention more.

etc etc.

In general the 360 exclusives hold my attention way more, they just appeal to the type of gamer i am so its obvious why my 360 gets pretty much all of my attention.

Others will be in the other camp, and the third type of blind brand loyalty gamer.. well, i wont get started on that one.

There's something else which bugs me to hell with the PS3, although its been toned down lately.
Why on earth are all sony exclusives so 'cold'.
Its hard to explain, but graphically .. its like if you take a photo and apply a 20% cooling filter in Photoshop.

It wasn't supposed to be a like for like comparison, just a brief list of titles taken out of my head which i've played and which i didnt like / prefer others for whatever reason.
