The *Official* Eve Online Thread

With Corps I'd say you may get through several before you find one you want to stay in. I got lucky and found the Corp I spent most of my EVE time in on my second try.

Doing? Depends what you want out of EVE. Be it PvP, PvE, manufacturing or even all in one you'll find many Corps covering every combination.

As for recommending I have no idea as I haven't been Corp hunting in many years. I don't play EVE any more, all good things come to an end (though I have resubbed for a month to see what's happening but I won't be resubbing), so would recommend the Corp finder thingy that is in the station environment.

Eve's player base has no one but themselves to blame, paying for multi accounts to just play the game, plex of isk and supportive of exploitive game play. CCCP demands increased milk production!

Eve seems to either breed or attract some of the most overblown egos I've ever seen in a game. It doesn't really surprise me that CCP would think that some of them would fork out 70 quid for a status symbol.

Anyone here know of a corp I can join that will fill the following criteria...

- Allow me to be as active or passive as I like with corp events, some weeks I can play as little as 30 minutes a day, other weeks I can be online a few hours a day.

- Doesn't require teamspeak, due to home situation, it isn't practical for me to be sat chatting in front of the PC with headphones on. It's something I could start doing in the future though if I start to really enjoy the corp and have the time.

- I do mainly in-station remote trading, a little hauling, some L3/4 mission running, that's about it at the moment.

I'd just like to be in an actual player corp and be able to type chat a little in-game when i'm online and doing whatever i'm doing, occasionally help out others if/when i'm able but not be forced into corp activities I might not have the time/inclination for.

In game name is 6ix2wo 6ix

EDIT: This is me:

Yeah you can on the chat window, for the rest I'm not sure. I know your pain as I tried going back to Eve with a 5 day resub after I got my new monitor with its 2560x1440 resolution. Boy was I squinting!

iirc there's an option for the rest of the text if you hit Esc to vary it on a scale ranging between very very small, and eye-bleedingly small. You can also adjust the spacing between letters to make it a bit more readable.

Think the person I gave a Buddy Trial to subbed, if it was you send me an EVE Mail (in-game name is Liaya) and I'll send you the ISK.

That was me! :D

Will get a message to you soon, trying to play via RDP at the moment so I can get a mail to you, or it may have to wait until I get home tonight.

Have to say I still find the choice mindblowing, finished all the tutorial missions now and have about 9 ships, still in the dark about which way to go so training up all the low skils I have so I can try just about everything out.
Doing a bit of "AFK" mining in a wreathe as I have a couple spare, have extended cargo holds and a mining laser. Slow going but easy money when I start the process and then go off for a shower in the morning :D Bound to get nobbled sooner or later but for the moment it is bringing in easy money when I cant sit in front of the pc. Free cash towards later usage which is handy.

Reading a lot of threads and picking up the terminology, but still a long way off from utilising it, it appears. I have been doing missions in a destroyer, equipped 50/50 with howitzers and autocannons as it seems to carve through the npc frigates with ease. I am right at the edge of cpu usage though so need more skills to fill up the last slot and turret as I have no cpu left! There seems to be a vast array of kit to fit to ships, I assume certain kit will only go on certain minimum size ships though?

However, subbed for three months to give it a good old try out, have to say I am loving it.

Aside from capital mods and a few other things like covert ops cloaks there aren't really that many ship restrictions with mods, its more about CPU and PG requirements i.e. it doesn't usually make much sense to put a battleship (large) turret on a cruiser as you max out your fitting with the one module but there are some cases where it can be useful i.e. some ships can use oversized afterburners very effectively.

Get used to using right click->show info and take note of the bonuses and pre-requisites and you should pickup on what makes the most sense fairly quickly - i.e. it usually makes more sense to fit projectile weapons on a ship with bonuses for projectiles rather than putting lasers on it and vice versa.

I wouldn't mix guns like that really, purely from an efficiency point of view. It's better to have them all operating at a similar sort of range so you can apply maximum damage. Changing ammo types will give you a bit of variation on range - more so with artillery, ACs will be damn short range whatever ammo you use really (in frigate sized guns) and/or puny dps unless you have skills to use barrage. Afk mining should be fairly safe in hisec as long as you can tank the NPCs, it *will* get you killed in lowsec though!

I've been lurking on these boards for a while now and the quality of this thread has led to me biting the bullet and signing up, so congrats on that.

I've just re-subbed my Eve account, though I might as well be a complete noob given that I only lasted about 5 days the first time round. I was hoping to get some advice.

1) I was planning to hold off joining a corp for a few weeks so that I can get the basic controls etc down myself, and so that I can get a few skills behind my belt so that I'm not a total drain when I first sign up. Does this sound logical or would you recommend trying to find a corp from the off?

2) How long do I realistically need to be training skills before trying my arm at pvp in low sec? I'm looking at focussing on Amarr frigate related skills at first and then moving up the classes for mission running, am I looking at a few months before I can traverse low sec without getting podded on a regular basis?

Any input would be welcome. Again cograts on a cracking thread, read a great deal of it and it's definitely helped me so far.

You could join the OcUK corp just now while you're finding your feet. Just join the OcUK chat channel in game and ask.

There are a few other noobs in there and there are generally some experienced players lurking around to give out some advice if required.

Firstly, don't be scared of lowsec, it's mostly empty and if you're just passing through in a frigate and don't linger on gates you'll likely be okay.

Secondly, there's nothing to stop you trying pvp straight away if you want but you won't kill much on your own in a frigate. If you're looking to run missions then I'd suggest concentrating on that first to build up some ISK and until you can afford a mission ship and a separate pvp ship.

That way if you lose your pvp ship you can go back and run missions until you can afford another.

Also I'd recommend reading the stickies on this board: Red v Blue

Especially the ones about PvP mechanics and and overview settings. There are also other ones about low skilled pilots fitting out frigates for PvP.

Good luck.:)

If you want to get straight into PvP, I'd say join a corp as soon as you;ve got your head around the basics. For frigate stuff, lowsec isn't great (imo) as you can't fight on gates really. Best solution would be either a Faction Warfare corp (lowsec) Red vs Blue (hisec, see Meth's link above) or a nullsec corp. Frigates work well in those capacities.

If frigs were your cream, wouldn't Wormhole space and being apart of 5-10 man gangs be better?

Granted it does take a while to get a good fitting on Cov Ops, could still be fun?

Just a suggestion.

@ FortuitousFluke

Join a corp asap. a lot more fun, just make sure they're newb friendly. As suggested red vs blue (RvB) or faction warfare (FW) would be your best bet for frigate combat without getting overwhelmed in lowsec, RvB would probably be the better option. Lowsec isn't as scary as you think, quite unpopulated but you tend to find small organised gangs who gank solo PVPers. Solo fights can be found but it's not easy.

You can start PVPing quite quickly, by the time you've learnt roughly how to fit a ship and can fly it adequately. Go for it. It's a game and who cares if you are a little underskilled for a frigate. The people who I *facepalm* at are those who jump in a battleship within a week.

I'd avoid wormhole space to begin with, it's a little complicated. Nullsec mechanics and wormhole mechanics etc. Plus probing is a big part of it and a lot of w-space people have alts for scouting/probing/leaving in w-space when in k-space. Just my feeling on the matter. I'd join RvB first, get some PVP basics in, a lot of people to interact with, no pressure situation.

Cheers guys, I've read quite a bit about RvB so I'll check them out after work.

I figure I need to try my hand at a bunch of different things and then decide what I want to aim for, there's so much going on it'd be a crime not to have a bit of a play around, and a bit of playing around might help me decide on a skill chain.

Cheers for the advice, expect to see me getting shot at in a a sector near you soon.

Ditto. You can probably do a little in a bomber in w-space, or a frig for tackle in bigger gangs, but the majority of small-mid sized gang stuff in w-space is T2/T3/Faction cruisers or BCs

Join the OcUK channel in game, that way you might get a couple of less people shooting you!
