BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Doesn't just go on the distance, it goes on line quality. My friend has a line of 870 meters to his cab, all underground run and with 0.5cu copper, he gets full sync both ways solid.

Yeah the fibre kit is all new isn't it?

The only 'old' part of it would be the line between you and the cab surely?

depends on your definition of "new" and what you actually think is "new"

the exchange near me was fttc enabled 2 years ago(hence not really new anymore) so the equipment from exchange back upto BT's core network must be older than that!

At some point you hit BT's network thats been around for a while its not all new new new.

So you could say "the newest bit is from exchange to cab"

:)

But BT's core isn't anything to do with your sync  who cares if thats new or not? as long as it can handle the speeds.

vDSL has been out in other countries for years, even when BT installed theirs it wouldn't of been 'new'

initial point I was making was even the fibre between exchange and cab is not necessarily new as mine's been down two years. Okay some of the copper has been down 80,90, 100 years ! ( :) ) so in that example you could say the fibre is "new"!

In fact I can remember when it was installed it was when we had those really bad floods around the country as we were in Mexico when it happened and when I came back flipping BT had marked yellow lines up and down our shared access drive to show where the BT lines went. There was yellow lines all over the estate pavements, drives and roads.

My order of BT business fiber is booked for 20th. Will do some tests and post results once installed.

Is there anything I need to do before the bt engineer arrives? should i make space by the socket or something?

I think I saw the fiber installation in one picture, do they have to screw something in to the wall ?

I just tried bad company 2 for the first time in months, totally unplayable,! It starts off with a few lag spikes then ping will increase for a few minutes followed by loss of connection to the server...I even lost my whole connection (has happened on torrents for the last week or so too) a couple of times, are BT traffic-shaping / throttling online games now because that is seriously taking the ****!
