New Car! E60 M5

Oh no! I've only just seen this thread, sorry to hear about your car mate how unlucky and ****ing gutting that must be! At least you have a nice hire car I guess and it is all being sorted.

How is the M3 compared to the M5? Mostly the gearbox, I bet it feels ten times better! Care to compare?

EDIT: My bad, I see you already replied to OllyM about the gearbox. Sounds like a dream compared to the M5, I know mine gets very frustrating at times. Enjoy the M3 while you have it :)

How about the performance? Are you tearing down the road noticeably quicker in the M5 than the M3, or does the gearbox and less weight balance it out?

In terms of straight line performance, it's fast, as in proper fast, just not tear you face off fast like an M5. But due to it's smaller size and less weight, the M3 definately feels more nimble and agile.

I never got a decent chance to cane my M5 round the twisties before the accident and didn't drive it much at all after, but I would have to say the M3 would give it a run for its money in the bends, or dare I say pee all over it?

However, I don't feel as special driving the M3, it just doesn't have that sense of occasion about it.

I've assumed that much, but I thought like for like meant the actual type of vehicle and didn't consider engine size, etc?

It's good that it does though :)

When my 330i sport went in for repair following a non-fault thecompany actually apologised that they had no 330i in stock, and asked if I would be so kind as to accept their offer of a 335i m-sport coupe.

I of course told them how much of an inconvenience having an extra 70bhp would be and how it would just have to do if that's all they had!

No you didn't, you got offered a 320d and stamped your feet about how it wasn't like for like and demanded something else, resulting in your getting the 335i.

Like for like doesn't necessarily nean the exact same car. They categorise similar cars into 'bands', so you'll get a car from the same band that your own car is in.

Make sure the repair is a good one. Accept nothing but the best, as selling a car like this on with a side painted will be a nightmare.
