What film did you watch last night?

Paul & Arthur.
Watched Paul first thinking it would be the best/funniest & I was wrong. Arthur was quite a bit better, Loved the characters made me laugh out loud quite a few times.
I'd watch Arthur again but wouldn't recommend Paul. (<That even shocks me)

Starter for 10.

Really loved the book, but felt disappointed by the film. I thought that a little too much of the plot was changed to make it fit into a 90 minute film, as well as needlessly changing little details, nor did i think the actress who played Alice did a particularly good job!

5/10

True Grit - the 2010 one, very good western but slightly disappointing for a Coen brothers film. I don't know what I was expecting, something more Coen-y somehow. Anyway a very good western, Jeff Bridges does some epic mumbling, in fact the speech patterns are really one of the things I liked about the film, not one apostrophe seemed to be used in the script! 4/5

Kill the Irishman - very good gangster movie based on a true story
Red Riding Hood - Enjoyable, though I didn't like the ending.

The Blindside. Good solid triumph over diversity sports film, with a great performance from Sandra Bullock. Very safe and Oscar-y, but to be honest I watch enough miserable, horrible films that a decent, happy one is quite welcome once in a while.

The Book of Eli

**spoiler**

I had read / knew somehow that he was blind from the start and also knew that there was a big twist at the end so once it became apparent that I already knew this I was disappoint. Was still a highly watchable film though, probably 7/10ish.

Akira

I just got this on Blu Ray (despite owning the VHS (somewhere) and then special edition DVD)

It remains one of my favourite films of all time, I think it's less a film more of a work of art. It's inspired and influenced film and cinema and the attitude people have towards Japanese Anime since it's release (despite it not getting an International release straight away)

It still confuses me, it still leaves me in awe and it still gets me thinking. Amazing. I've seen the film more times then I care to remember, but it still has the same effect this time, as it did the first. Can't recommend this film enough.

The Beach - 7/10

I actually really enjoyed this on a rewatch, having not seen it for years. The pacing felt a lot better than I remember.

SPOILER

Particularly the bit where Leo goes mental and starts running around the Island - I remember the first time I watched it that really annoyed me. This time it made a bit more sense. Obviously my tastes have matured a tad in the last decade!

The Lincoln Lawyer - Took me a little while to get in to it as was distracted by my phone going off every 5 seconds. Once that settled down though, really enjoyed this twisty turn of a court house film. Certainly worth watching 7/10

The Education of Charlie Banks

Caught it on one of weird sky film channels and really enjoyed it, I like these sort of indie-type films, particularly with that guy from The Social Network. Probs 7ish/10.

We watched a few films today:

The first being (my choice) of X-Men: First Class which I though wasn't too bad. A little predictable but the special effects were quite good and Jennifer Lawrence portrayal as Mystique is pretty good. As is James McAvoy's rendition of a young Charles Xavier - 7/10.

The second film we watched (the wife's choice) was The Sound Of Music. I'm guessing the majority of readers of this post weren't even born when this came out (myself included) but I'd have to class this as the epitome of family movies and score it an easy 10/10 :D

And lastly as a joint decision we watched The Rock. Cant believe this is 15 years old now! It's still an all out action movie with the best soundtrack ever put to an action movie imo 8/10
