IMO, anyone who takes KFC or pizza should be ashamed; a few sweeties and a drink is ok but come on, kfc!!

I have never ever ever seen that.
So no need to sneak anything in reallyThey don't even break even on ticket prices on big films - they break even (and then some) on added sales like food.Funny how as soon as vue took over the cinema's, the prices immediately went up, and the level's of service down. So I don't see how it is they only 'break even' on the ticket price.
I am pretty sure they have carefully modelled and tested the correct price points and 'offers' to balance number of people they need to get to the food counters (before the film starts) vs their margins.I still think they would make more money by being cheaper, it's the whole high price but low turn out, compared to low price high turn out.
What percentage of people buy food and how many would if it was a reasonable price.
Cinema in Malaysia is quite cheap
Around 2,50 for a ticket and food isn't too much - maybe 2 quid for drink and hot dog? Total less than a fiverSo no need to sneak anything in really

My business is a specialist firm of entertainment economists and you are right broadly speaking. Cinemas have for the past 20 years or so been pretty horrible businesses in terms of return on showing the film and as such the need to extract profit from the secondary items has driven up the prices for food and drink. They're technically not allowed to bring in snacks. If I recall, the ticket price doesn't even cover the cost of running the cinema and showing the films - only do they break even and then start making profit on drinks and crisps.
In there eyes it is better to keep the ticket price down (to bring people in) and try to up-sell them on snacks.
You don't have to buy them..
