****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Not too scientific but I updated yesterday and my battery life is showing a much healthier life after 24hrs compared to pretty much the same usage pattern. Me like.

On the back foot , took delivery of a Samsung desktop dock yesterday and it has confirmed my initial impression. This phone doth truly sound bloody awful compared to an iphone on music.

Using the line out from the dock into my hifi it was chalk and cheese soundwise. Even the wife noticed (she refuses to use my Etymotic brain plugs where the initial concern was raised wrt sound quality)

Don't get me wrong - as a phone and a gaming device this thing blows Apple into the weeds but as a music playing device - well, it's a Samsung innit?

The dock has been RMA'd and I'm keeping the 3GS for innernet radio and mp3 listenin duties. Shame really. So wanted to get rid of the Apple Shackles.

dont want to spend £30 per month.. £25 max but the £21.50 was very good..

12 month deal...@ £30 +£100 for phone = £460

or 24 month @ £25 +£150 for phone = £750

i presume your not stupid and can see which is better...

also don not bank on any cashback site when it comes to phone contracts, its a bonus if it pays..

It is safe to assume I am not stupid. You cannot compare apples with oranges.

One would still have to pay circa £25 for the contract after the first 12 months.

Therefore, using your figures above:

£750 24 months

£460 + £25x12 = £760

et voila.

Further, your figure of £750 includes the phone at full cost, whereas the reality is that the total costs after 24 months are £600 (£25 x 24)

Is it just me or is the mic quality pretty bad on the SGS2? I thought maybe it was just mine but my other halfs is the same. Quite muffled.

you may have the same issue i did. lots of people saying "speak up" or mentioning i sound muffled. i tested using my wifes handset and sure enough she was muffled when using mine.
returned to o2 for a replacement which works fine.

i recommend using another handset and get a helper to test!

Batterylife is the same I reckon on 2.3.4 and to who ever said you wont lose data and SMS etc....

I lost both.

That sucks. Is there some backup program good for saving apps, SMS, memos and custom phone settings?

Someone on XDA said

"battery is superb now on this rom 22hrs and still got 42% left. i luv this phone more and more every day and im ios through and through"

I've asked what kind of usage he's had in 22 hours but not had a reply yet.

I find 2.3.4 (VillainROM on CWM CF-Root KF2 kernel) battery life better than previous 2.3.3 with the same usage.

If I was to put a figure on to it I would say in the region of 25% better.

I also get a higher HSDPA signal by approximately +1 bar given where I am. This could be attributed to the latest Radio/Modem flash though which is recommended for 2.3.4.

you get the same? how bad is it? i get 2 things when on the phone. 1 is the other person hears them self, and the other is they struggle to hear me; they say it sounds like i have my hand over my mouth. when i record using the voice recorder it's fine.

mine needs to go back but it's out of the 28 day immediate swap so i'll lose the phone for too long and as it's not all the time they may end up saying it's fine

what exactly are people expecting from 2.3.4? its already been said that the issues are largely down to samsung drivers and not android, and so it was doubtful 2.3.4 would fix anything to any large degree long before it was leaked. most of us already get a decent standby time out of ours on the newer 2.3.3 roms so i really cant understand why people think, or thought, 2.3.4 was going to be a massive improvement.

but anyway for anybody interested, this is mine on the stock 2.3.4 leaked rom.

I don't think i can ask for much more than that - the battery is still on 46% after 14 hours and you can clearly see the battery drain is minimal when the phone is in standby. I'm not grumbling :)

what r u on about... the deal i posted which is the hottest deal of the week on hotukdeals

it is what it is!

£99 for the phone
12 month contract
£30 per month
400 cross network mintues
1000 texts
1gb web data
+£30 cash back
My maths makes it
Total for 12 months = £459.99
Quidco is also available -£30
so Total around = £429.99

you confuse me and yourself

i tried with darky, but failed. i wanted to do the wipe and have no swipe and no samsung apps, but must have done it wrong...

How can we see when its in standby from that pic? Unless your saying you didnt really use the phone much in those 14hrs? In which case I'd expect more than 46% left
