Ok who sneeks in snacks to the pictures

Haven't been to the cinema for years. My cut off was £6.50 a ticket, it's now £9.60 looking at the web sites. I think cinemas will die out in a few years, they have failed to adapt like the music industry.

Lulz.

It was 7.50 last time I went, 5.50 for students/oap etc;)

I always take stuff into the pictures. I don't sneak them in either. No where is there a sign that says you cannot bring your own food in so I quite happily argue with the ticketboy if needed.

That said I have never been stopped so.... yea screw the cinema and their stupidly high prices on popcorn !!

I was going to go and see a film on saturday at my local VUE (Islington), but it is £11.25 for an adult ticket. Add an extra £3.15 if you want to see a 3D film.

Thats £30 for 2 people to watch a film. Needless to say I didnt bother in the end.

The BFI Imax is "only" £16 for a ticket and in some ways justify's that by being an awesome experience and one to remember....... If you are lucky enough to book tickets!

pretty much they need to renegotiate how much of a ticket sale they get or force lower prices a lot of people might see it as reasonable but not if you have a family it costs a fortume for 2 adults+2kids etc

I've already raged once about cinema prices here

As for sneaking in food, me and a few mates smuggled in a whole picnic once which included mugs and tea. It did help that the weather was awful so we wore large coats :D

*jealous*

Anytime I go to the cinema with a bag or large coat I always end up getting searched!:(

I think you will find the reason that you get searched is for recording equipment whereas if you walked in with a tesco/asda/morrisons bag of goodies they would probably say nothing.

I may be wrong but If I worked there and saw someone walk in this time of year with a stuffed coat I would search them if no recording equipment is found then I would take your goodies simply because of the hassle involved. I noticed most of the people who get searched are concealing things to them I say "what do you expect" lol.

Gutted for you. Its £10.60 at the birmingham imax for a 3D film, £8.60 for concessions (Over 60s, Unemployed, Disabled People and Students). The missus and I never bother with the likes of Odeon/Showcase anymore - they are a total rip off whereas the imax is actually value for money.

Boycott rip off venues guys, its the only way things will change. Tell your family and friends.

The poster you were responding to was in London. Everything is a rip off in London.

If they're too stupid to figure it out for themselves, they deserve to be ripped off. I have zero sympathy for the kind of people people whine about the prices they have to pay AS THEY'RE PAYING THEM.

Solution: Don't pay!

Education of the masses has to start somewhere, and it starts with you. You might be educated, down to earth, and a top notch economist, but what about your aging parents who maybe don't know any better? What about your brothers and sisters and friends?

Odeon and their ilc are a rip off, just as Domino Pizza and their ilc are a rip off. Mass produced, inferior products sold at massively inflated prices. The general consumer are addicted to these names out of familiarity. How are things going to change if your attitude is 'lolz people are so stoopid! I'm real smartz *takes sip of full price official Coca Cola while wearing branded t-shirt wrought with slave labour*'

You don't have to be a 'top notch economist' to realise not to pay for something you don't realise the value in. If you don't make that connection you're a first-class idiot and deserve to have your money taken.

Or is it the case that those people do see the value in what they are paying for, not that they are idiots, and you just disagree with them?

It's not a case of being tight, it's a case of not pointlessly spending an extra £10 for exactly the same stuff you could bring with you. Food at the cinema can make a reasonably priced evening out an expensive evening out.

I buy them at the cinema, because I'm not tight.

Nothing to do with being tight, cinema food is ridiculously overpriced compared to the exact same things that can be bought anywhere else.

Only thing I ever buy is an ice slushy, any food I have is always brought in with me and has been since I can remember.

I know, it was a bit of joke :p

It's not really something that worries me, the prices are quite steep but it's hardly outrageous.
