X-Wing / TIE Fighter remake

Why isn't there one?

The original X-wing and TIE Fighter games (and their expansions) were immense. X-vs-TIE was bleeding fantastic, played that soooo much multiplayer.

The later X-wing alliance wasn't so good multiplayer IMO.


These games did so, so well, how come nowadays the 'big' games are either FPS or MMO. What happened to this Genre??

Ahhhhh... it just wouldn't be the same :( I remember playing on MSN's Zone for online play with X-Wing vs TIE Fighter, used to love it. But I think most of the charm for me is the semi-crappy graphics that came with it...

That and the endless hours of frustration as a kid that it took me to work out that if you put your lasers on higher power your shields get drained... I died so easily, so many times. To Z-95's most of the time and they were so bad!

Great game(s), glad there are other fans of them out there!

Do you really think a modern remake wouldn't be any good though? If so, why??

Personally I think it's cause of the nostalgic value the game has with me. I don't really want it being ruined... although you can't mess something up so simple. Just add in every Star Wars ship and separate them into two factions... good times.

But I just have this horrible feeling that LucasArts would mess it up if they tried to recreate it. Off the top of my head as well I don't think LucasArts have ever re-released a game and updated it? Think I'd rather just leave it in the past where my childhood is and play something else :p That being said, if it was was released I'd probably try it. So everything I just said is null and invalid. :P
 
I would love to see a remake of these games - to see a Starwars space sim with todays graphics would be incredible (aslong as it retained exactly how the x-wing vs tie fighter games worked, not dumbed down in any way).

I'm not saying I would want to to be like Battlefront, but it would be interesting if they made other ways of destroying capital ships (Star destroyers etc) by docking on them and making your way to its reactor fighting off Stormtroopers :P *salivates excessivley*
 
You got my hopes up with your thread title. :(

I absolutely adored TIE Fighter. It's still one of my favourite games ever. The sense of scale and the atmosphere really hasn't been matched by a Star Wars game since.

I can't see a proper remake happening though. TIE Fighter was very much influenced by the PC games around at the time, i.e. proper flight sims. A remake would no doubt dumb down the flying experience (ala Rogue Squadron).
 
Had me wishing this was thread was not a question but rather an announcement when I clicked the link :(

I would love a remake - those tie fighters were so difficult to kill early on in the game. The music and sound effects were awesome - all round great game.

agreed, freespace / starlancer / freelancer etc were excellent.

Wing Commander though.... I can't say I miss Mark Hamil's acting in that. Pressing one of the F keys to taunt the Kilrathi was pretty immense though.

Wow, op should be banned for this thread title. It's almost as bad as making a thread called "half Life 2: Episode 3" :mad:

I would love if they remade this but Lucasarts would probably crowbar Jar Jar Binks in as a co-pilot or something stupid.
 
Reason 1. Pixels there are too many of them

Reason 2. GETTING PEOPLES HOPES UP IS LIKE THE SHENMUE 3 THREAD! RTM MATERIAL!!! (same for hl3)
