Why do people buy into apple BS?

wow, that took me an hour of reading to catch up from this morning and all i've learned is that i'm ignorant for buying the best phone for my needs, and being completely happy with it! Go figure haha.

Yes, apple user here, NEVER ever thrown it in anyones face, whenever i send email or anything like that, i delete the 'sent from my iphone' bit from it. I don't hate Android as i said earlier, if the android suited my requirements more, i'd buy one. I've always been a windows based pc / laptop user, but i'd love a macbook air / Mac pro with 27" screen, I love the use of finger controls on the trackpads / mice.

So erm, yes, i think i might get rid of my perfectly suited phone/media device and get one that doesn't suit me at all!

Oh, and yes, it is the android users that always bring up the apple fanboyism, never the other way round.

Apple are a business, there products may be expensive, but people buy them and are happy with them, so everyone is happy in that respect, except those who would love one but can't afford one. Their customer service again is second to none, and goes into justifying the extra cost.

Finally, how many android users have a device over a year old and it still look / feel new and are not bored of it? Not trolling, genuine question.

Yep, which is why sometimes it's ok to pay over the odds for hardware even though it's technologically inferior.

Or does that argument only work when you say so?

As I never made any such argument I would say no.

Windows is like VHS and the Playstation, it may not be as good as OSX on paper however its accessibility gives it a massive popularity advantage, and thus its popularity advantage means the majority of programs are written for it and not OSX (obviously this is also true for viruses).

At the end of the day both Windows and OSX are solid operating systems and which is best for you comes down to personal preference, I personally prefer Windows as its more customizable for my needs and it has access to the programs I want however I can understand why a less advanced user would prefer OSX (and why a more advanced user would prefer Linux).

Historically speaking Macs have always been in the realm of the user not really needing to know how it works in order to operate it and in that sense I think the average joe who wants email/web/word would be better off with a mac, but as many people have pointed out apple charge through the nose for their systems and so they are priced out of reach of most average joes.

Historically speaking IBM clones were in the realm of needing to know how it works to operate it properly but with Windows 95 and then XP and now 7 the need to understand how it works is getting lower and lower, this is an annoyance for many advanced users as it means more babying by the O/S and the things you want hidden away and harder to access, but on the flipside it means its easier for novices to get into computers.

In an ideal world Apple would make OSX or better yet IOS) available for all systems letting the unskilled masses have a simple to use O/S, but then they would have to support it and it would end up with the same undeserved reputation for crashing that Windows currently has.

Not trying to diminish your point if you like it thats fair play but...

In bold is one of my greatest annoyances when it comes to anything where you need a code or password my real issue being that if one password is discovered then eveything you've signed up for is vunerable and your ****ed.

Please people don't just use one password IMHO it's just damn foolish!

I use a password logger (KeyPass, etc), so technically, if someone gets into that I'm stuffed too.

Only critical thing in MobileMe is my email address, I don't think anyone cares that the F1 is on on Sunday at 1 or I have a Aircraft Dynamics lab at 2PM :p

Dude I agree with all of what you've said about W7 if I had the choice of running Linux on all my machines I'd do that(Sadly at work it's not an option contracts were signed before IT was informed and we're stuck with Dell Hardware *Spits* and Windows *Spits* but thats my own problem) but the OS isn't what I'm talking about, I'm really just at a loss as to why people prefer to pay apple for hardware when you can get equivilent system cheaper elsewhere and slap on the Mac OS IMO it just seems like a waste of money.

Legally and from a updates perspective, updates won't bugger it, which makes hackintoshes a risk.

Example is my Mac Pro, I spent 3 months researching, thinking of W7/hackintosh self-builds but the more I read the more risky it is, with updates bricking things and what not.

Hardware wise then depending on the cycle then it's the same or behind, but the build quality is not found anywhere else.

MBP: Machined out of a solid billet of ally.
MP: Was described by one of the case makers (see here) that to produce it exactly would be >£300, which basically wipes out any difference between the price of the hardware and the equiv PC.

Simply put:
1. Build Quality.
2. OS X.
3. (And there is some debate to this) Macs hold their value better for longer.

Edit: 4. In terms of self build you know the hardware is going to work out of the box, and if it doesn't you get swapped out for a new one.

I'm sure you've been through the PITA which is hardware failure diagnosis. Partly the reason I bought a MP in the first place.

I'm not saying it's bad I'm just asking why you prefer it have you tried running mac OS on your powerful PC and compareing it to your iMac. I just don't see how paying over the odds for hardware is an advantage.

Please see the bit where I pointed out my works computer works out more expensive and less well spec'd than my 27" iMac. If I added a decent IPS screen to my "custom built" PC I'd have also spent more than my iMac with little overall gains (the new iMac also has a Sandybridge CPU)

One thing the PC has that my iMac doesn't is pleasing aesthetics. It has a nasty case and a giant red led Fan and is bloody noisy. The iMac is near silent even when being hammered rendering 1080p video in ProRes 4444.The iMac also looks nice and whilst this isn't a primary concern it does matter when it goes in my study that just happens to be in a period building. The iMac fits a PC looks out of place.

So how much extra would it have cost me to make my PC pleasing to my eye (and to fit in my study without being hidden away) and silent and have a 2560 x 1440 screen?

Finally the PC doesn't run Coda, Screenflow, Final Cut, Motion, XCode and more.

Wez you can delete the "sent from iphone" from the settings > mail and scroll to the bottom, just remove it from the signature rather than delete it manually each time.

Apologies if this is what you've done already :)

Not always, all manner of people have in this thread and generally in real life too. Anyway why would an Apple user appear to diss their own device to begin with?

My HTC Desire looked as good after 18 months as it did when new. unlike some people, I look after my **** regardless of what brand it is or what it is.

Buy the components and compare the price.

Yeah I just did that - Turns out it's not significantly cheaper... colour me surprised... of course once you start to upgrade it becomes a whole other story... £160 for another 4GB?!?!?

You don't have to get the RAm from Apple. You can get it from OCUK. Also please make that build silent and see how much extra it costs.

Thank you thats an acceptable answer and very well reasoned.

dude - I just wasted my time half proving your point... I can't be arsed doing it again. Besides the iMac has a mobile graphics card which generates less heat also an underclocked processor which again generates less heat - lets not get bogged down into semantics because that's where Apple starts to fall apart...

Samsung Galaxy S2 is a better phone hardware wise in every conceivable way

True, but Android in it's default factory setting is just as easy to use, and just as fast (if not faster as it's has a daul-core CPU and boy does it get used!!!)

You claim nothing has overtaken it and then you say it doesn't matter? Confused.com!

I haven't said anything about the hardware, I've stated that the design and build of the phone is of FAR greater quality than that of the SG2.

Android is not as easy or as quick to use. Have you actually compared them?

I've said that nothing has overtaken the iPhone 4 as an overall package - the SG2 cannot compete with build quality, design, app store, itunes that Apple provide.

I develop PC software I have all the latest and greatest PC hardware but for home use I buy Apple because it is a all round package that just works. Love the build quality and it is used in preference by my family over the PC.

All of the products I buy, I ensure do, at the very least "just work". I think these are Apple owners favourite words. I actually said earlier on in this thread that this is the main argument for Apple products. It's not a valid point. What are you even suggesting? Presumably that the OS is stable? If so, state that.

Perhaps you should try that then before you try to look smug?:p Because last time I did (several months ago now though) the 27" iMac is actually cheaper. In certain products in Apple's range it's simply not true that you're paying more money for lower spec hardware, particularly when you consider the screens.
