Best way to clean the oven

Sodium hydroxide.

Aye that's great gear Energize !!

Solid sodium hydroxide or solutions of sodium hydroxide may cause chemical burns, permanent injury or scarring if it contacts unprotected human, or other animal, tissue. It may cause blindness if it contacts with the eye. Protective equipment such as rubber gloves, safety clothing and eye protection should always be used when handling the material or its solutions.

Dissolution of sodium hydroxide is highly exothermic, and the resulting heat may cause heat burns or ignite flammables. It also produces heat when reacted with acids. Sodium hydroxide is corrosive to some metals, e.g. aluminum, which produces flammable hydrogen gas on contact. Sodium hydroxide is also mildly corrosive to glass, which can cause damage to glazing or freezing of ground glass joints.

sodium hydroxide is perfectly safe as long as your not an absolute retard.

In the same way bleach is perfectly safe as long as you read the instructions and don't try to gargle with the stuff or use it for eye drops.

You're not going to be using high conc or as the piece of safety info you've quoted says solid sodium hydroxide pellets though.

Low concentrations are used by tens of thousands of school children weekly and higher concentrations by higher students and university students again with no injuries.

Mains Electricity can cause sever burns, permanent injury, scaring and death if it contacts an unprotected human but you don't stop using wall sockets do you?

When I was at Uni my housemate used a bottle of Gunk (engine degreaser).. worked ok but our food stank of chemicals for the next couple of weeks :p

Agreed. I liked the danger element but and thus that quote from Wiki :)
