new card Advice

i am getting a asus m5a88m mobo and a new video card, i have always had nvidia before but now i am not sure. i dont have a big budget so £90 for the video card. But since the the mobo has a hd4250 with crossfire support onboard is it worth getting a ati one- but i have no idea what one.

also i only have a cheap monitor with no dvi connectores just a vga and i see most video cards only have dvi connectors any way round this.

any ideas please.

Any card will come with a DVI -> VGA adapter, so no problem with that.

The motherboard you have says crossfire support, this is only a problem if you want to run 2 cards, then they both have to be AMD (and the same model). If you are only running 1 card then you are ok to choose AMD or Nvidia.

With a budget that low, it will probably be a AMD card.

What PSU do you have? as that can make a difference too.

as per Freakbro really need an idea of what psu you have.

otherwise i'd consider an ati 5770, or the 5830 (currently on offer for under you £90 budget), if you can stretch to £100 then have a look at the ocuk nvidia 460.

I thought you could run the onboard video and the dedicated video card in cross fire - No?

psu should be fine, how long you had it ?

edit:

looks like the mobo has Hybrid CrossFireX Support, so you'd match an ati card with the onboard, so need to go the ati 5770/5830 route rather than the nvidia 460 if you want to use it.

New , few weeks old part of my upgrade process. Had a cheapo 160w.

Just looked on the ATi Website and the 5830 needs 2 6pin psu connectors, i think mine only has one so it will have to be the 5770.

The 5830 will comes with a molex to 6-pin PCI-E adaptor, so you can use that and your OCZ 500W should be fine.

I believe all modern cards (that require PCI-E power) comes with the molex to PCI-E adapter(s), so may be that's why they don't mention it.

can't see that a cable could be connected as the onboard gfx are usually just a chip.

as you mentioned it would be nice if manufacturers detailed there items better, but i guess they just can't be bothered most of the time.
