Gypsy gang deliberately drowned pony.

These sorts of people are people that wouldn't be able to afford a house of their own, but rather than relying on the state and live in a council house and claim benefits, they prefer to work and live in a caravan within their means. Is that so deplorable ?

the fact that they steal land to do so yes.

the fact that they steal land to do so yes.

What was once a beautiful part of our beach (grassy area before shingles) has been mobbed by about 10 gypo caravans in the past few weeks, probably more now.

I don't care, this is 2011 not 1811. They should be forced to pay taxes and live like the rest of us :o

Are these gypsies, or just 'modern travellers'? Or are both considered the same?

EDIT - oops massive fail, already discussed, that'll teach me for not reading the whole thread :o :p

granted i can think of a couple more services other than roads that they will use.

And even then we're making sweeping generalisations. Not all travellers drive vans that are uninsured and untaxed. The police have become so tough on them it would be hard to hold down their scrap metal business / landscaping business etc.. if their van kept getting seized and crushed.

I have coppers in the family and they get very frustrated by gypsys because they basically struggle to touch them. They are known as Do-as-you-likeys to the coppers I know

Travellers will happily live on organised caravan parks if given one by the local council. problem is that locals frequently object to them and get them closed down. They've got to live somewhere.

Locals object to them because they make a mess and are generally unpleasant to be around. Our local park in Crawley just got closed down for safety reasons because the gypsy children whose families had moved in and set up home there were intimidating other children by swearing and spitting at them. Lovely!

Given the vast amounts of cash that some seem to carry around and the flash cars some drive I wouldn't imagine renting a house would be a problem, but then they would have to pay council tax wouldn't they. I don't believe that the majority wish to be traceable so pinning down roots possibly isn't an option.

That poor horse, whether it be an accident or on purpose that's a horrible way to die. :(

People tend to go on their experiences with issues such as this and sadly when it comes to our nomadic friends, none of mine have been good ones.

"Romany Gypsies and Irish Travellers are legally recognised as ethnic groups, and protected from discrimination by the Race Relations Act (1976, amended 2000) and the Human Rights Act (1998). In terms of health and education, they are one of the most deprived groups in the Britain."

Legal, politically correct classifications mean very little to me quite frankly. The only thing that differentiates these travellers from anyone else is their lifestyle, not genetics. So I don't classify them as a race.

So why can't you say bad things about them because they're a different race?

I can say "the Irish are scum" that's fine they're a country but if i say "the pikieys are scum" that's racism?

Hilarious comments in the Daily Mail, as usual.

Where are we? Some dirty district in a third world country? No! Welcome to animal planet UK. I have never read such a disgusting thing to do to an animal. But we are all classed as thugs and barbarians these days. While decent human beings with morals and standards are overlooked, trampled and trodden on, maybe we should suffer our fate alongside these poor creatures and let the barbarians, thugs and reprobates take over. Those in power who have let our morals and standards slip and slide the slippery path to sodom and gomorrah, need to hang their heads in shame. - Jan B, Weybridge, Surrey, UK, 11/7/2011 12:05_______________________________________________ @ - Jan, we are aleady there on a global scale which is far worse than sodam was. Even so, evil will one day be halted, it is only a matter of time. As you can see the country/world is awash with evil. Thank God for Hope.

Ahahahahaha.

The point being that it's not racism to criticise them which you seem to be suggesting, as what is being criticised is a particular lifestyle and not an ethnic group.

i think if somebody on here posted that all indians are xxxxx<insert derogatory comment here> there would be an uproar from those who are indian and don't conform to the stereotype being banded around.

That person would be called a racist and rightly so.

But because these are irish travellers, its fine to say that and alright to say they should all be killed in mass genocide ?

Yeah thats fair

ermm nope that would be an attack on a nationality.

Would it be racist to say all Germans are XXXXX <insert derogatory comment here>?

If not why does India get special protection eh?

You're just racist against Germans.
