The underdog

It could be the excitement of seeing someone unexpected triumph, it could be transference that AcidHell2 is talking about or it could be a dislike of the bigger party in the contest. I'd suspect those are three of the most common reasons.

What's not to love about the underdog? Backing the favourite is easy.
 
Why do people like the underdog?

I'll even admit to it that sometimes for some strange reason I prefer the underdog but I don't know why.

Apparently its a very British thing. In the US they always support the absolute favourites as they don't want to be on the 'losers side'.

I've also read a high percentage of the population vote for the candidate they think will win, as a kind of 'YES, WE WON, I'M A WINNER' type thing. Retards.
