Where's all the good space games?

As someone who isn't usually taken in by space or strategy games, I loved Homeworld. Never actually finished the first or second games, but I did complete Cataclysm many, many years back when I should have been spending the time studying for my A-Level (or maybe it was O-Level) exams. Utterly superb.

Great mod though it does put a strain on older systems as it gets quite intense. worth signing up to their site to see the changes as it does add enough new elements to the game to make it quite different than the original.

ps: i would also donate my right nut for Freespace 3 :)

what???? I played the beta when they released it and it was mp only!!! Im going to have to have a look at that!

I cant believe I missed out tachyon the fringe, another good game :)

I'm definitely going to try out freespace 2 SCP

edit I just checked the wiki on sins of a solar empire and it says theres no single player campaign? You can skirmish against ai but thats it :S

Yes. I played the closed beta & it was quite rough around the edges. A good game nonetheless but not one I'll return too for now.

I think with most games it's a case of trying them if you can, or downloading a demo.

I'm playing through X3:Terran Conflict at the moment, but I am tempted to give EVE Online a go again, but I'm not too sure whether I'll get disheartened with EVE or not.

The problem I found with the X-series of space sim is that the zones feel like rooms. There's always a jump gate to get in and out, so to speak.

I miss the freedom of the old Elite series of sims.
 
sins of a solar empire with the star trek mod is excellent :)

gets a tiny bit boring after a while but it takes a while especially when you play as the Borg. Great fun when you warp into a system with a cube fleet - zoom in and hear them going - we are the borg resistance is futile!
 
I've played EVE since 2004, done with it now - the fun is gone.

Black Prophecy tried to be Freelancer2 - but made a poor job of it.

AFAIK there are no other worthwhile space games.

Unless you count StarCraft II :)
 
I htought dead space was ironic for 2 reasons.

1. It is 2 good space games

2. ''dead'' ''space''...there are no space games ''dead' ''space''
