sins of a solar empire with the star trek mod is excellent
gets a tiny bit boring after a while but it takes a while especially when you play as the Borg. Great fun when you warp into a system with a cube fleet - zoom in and hear them going - we are the borg resistance is futile!
Been waiting for this, for ages. I hope it comes out. But I think it will be canned or by the time it does. It'll have no support or anything. Hope I wrong.
Until then will have to wait for x4.
There's the Elite type game Evochron Legends.

Probably not to the OP's taste but worth mentioning in a thread like this I think.
Nexus: The Jupiter Incident is good if you've not played it yet.
I have this but I just don't get the damage model.
I can literally sit there all day with a battle going nowhere because my weapons are doing ZERO to the enemy and vice-versa... a prime example in the 'Den' ship in the 6th or 7th mission.
I've tried attacking a specific part, tried a missile to take out the shields etc but same result - no damage, no kill, endless skirting around each other in space.

I found spore to be quite good up to a point. End game is extremely boring.
I'd highly recommend AI War: Fleet Command, you have to put a few hours in to get used to the mechanics but it's excellent, massive and just eats time!
The amount of ships you can control is staggering in this game, sadly I was terrible at it due to my mentality of trying to amass fleets and taking over each system which drew down the wrath of the AI.
the new X game X Rebirth is committing out this year.
He is selling the engine so a release from someone else using the tech is likely think he was at this E3.
