Idiots who tailgate

It was a marked car but it was dark and I couldn't see who it was, I only found out because I took a wrong turning and had to go back around a roundabout, was so surprised when I saw it was the 5-0!

The ones that really annoy me on the motorway are the ones that tailgate you then you pull over to let them past and they go past at 1 mph more! Makes me scream, "why the hell were you tailgating if you are not even in a rush to get past!?!?!?!?!".

That annoys me, although i then get quite annoyed and proceed to slowly up the speed and keep him alongside me for jokes lol. I had one guy pull and expression as if he thought the accelerator had stopped working before flooring it away haha

I've literally done this before, and I've left it until i cant see the bonnet before thinking "you know what, I dont think hes going to slow down with me!" lol

This isnt just a one time thing either.

I dont understand, if you need to slow down you press the brake or lift off the accelerator. How does a car behind you stop this from happening?

Oh you are one of those. I see.

This. I back off the throttle completely until they get the hint seems to work well enough. Assuming it's just a single lane.

this. then they either back off or become annoyed. usually the former but either way i win:D

Just get out the way of the people who are clearly more important than you that need to get wherever they are going faster than you. Simple.

My proposed solution:

I couldn't do it, driving that close to someone makes me feel unsafe and vulnerable.

Also if the car in front braked and I hit them, its my fault, big bills/ hassle with insurance

etc etc.

I actually got out of my car at some traffic lights once, and told the middle aged woman

behind me who had been tailgating me for last last couple of miles that I would

be reporting her to the police for dangerous driving, she went nuts lol, swearing and

shouting abuse at me, funny thing is she had two little girls in the car with her, mental.

I do tend to increase the gap between me and the car in front of me.

This, i tend to slow down and make sure i make eye contact in the mirror. They usually back off a bit then failing that a swift tap on the brake pedal, enough to illuminate the lights but not enough to cause any braking.

I'd love to follow people who whinge about stuff like this and see just how far off the car in front they actually drive.

If someone is 2ft off the rear bumper of the S, I cannot see even the bonnet of most cars. I stop being able to see numberplates and headlights at quite a distance back. Reverse your car up to some other car in a car park until you would be in OMFGTAILGATE RAGE mode and get out and see just how far you are from the car behind. Probably further than you would think!

I did that once, that's what the IAM taught me, the guy that I had pulled

over for pulled up along side me and started going crazy for no reason what so ever.

I had cars in front of me so could not go any faster, I was doing 30 in a 30

limit.

I proceeded to drive of with this tool chasing me, I drove to the nearest police

station, he followed me up to the point when I drove into the police car park.

Since then ive not pulled over to let the tailgater past.

Not far enough back to be able to stop in an emergency.

Why are you

typing like this

all the time?

:p

If everyone maintained the highway code braking distances between each other, the roads would be hilarious.

You only need to maintain your thinking distance and possibly less if your car's braking performance exceeds that of the car in front (unless they hit an immovable object in front of them, obviously!).

In my experience on motorways, I am usually off the throttle and covering the brake/braking before the car in front has started to slow.

FWIW I don't drive right up behind people but nor do I start foaming at the mouth when people are close to the rear of my car or posting rolleyes on forums at the mere thought.
