Indeed, and I hope the Met isn't left as the sacrificial lamb.

May is speaking now about widening the remit of the IPCC.

Certain people seem to be happy to push people onto their swords (as opposed to willingly fall) if it has a possibility of saving their own skins....

Can someone tell me why the PM is happy to see the 2 top cops for the entire UK quit yet deflects any similar accusations towards himself as "not the same thing"

Oooooo, low blow Fb. :p

*chuckle*

No, neither would I want that, but I fear that if everyone tainted by this story was rooted out, there wouldn't be many people left in the Government either.

The problem when it effects so many people is only a few get hung out to dry, while everyone else 'learns the lesson and will change things so it can't happen again'... until next time of course.

Maybe I'm just old and cynical but I've said many times in these threads, none of this surprises me one little bit. Corruption is a strong word, but bending the rules for friends is just a way of life, from the top of society to the bottom, it's just when you have money and power, those 'bendings' affect a lot more people and have bigger ramifications when found out.

Perhaps the government needs a new anti-corruption campaign: "Don't bend for a friend!"

Yates - the employment agent

The BBC is reporting that the IPCC is to investigate John Yates over his alleged involvement in "arranging" a job for the daughter of a friend.

The friend in question is named Neil Wallis.

Of course there is no reason to think that Yates was even a teensy weensy bit corrupt

The BBC were going on about the Met hiring this Neil Wallis bloke as a PR advisor earlier. Now hiring a dodgy bloke is bad, make no mistake about it, but to me there's a higher up problem...

Why the **** is the plod hiring a PR advisor?
I'll tell you something for nothing, there's a very good way for the plod to get some positive vibes from joe public:

  1. Lock up scum
  2. Public notice that plod has locked up scum
  3. Public like plod

Not hard is it? And I'm no ****ing PR advisor!

Call me Dave is irrepairably damaged by this, to say the least, of course he will cling on for as long as he possibly can.

I wonder if Cleggy Weggy will replace him or Gideon.

ooh baldy or Duncan **** could finally get their chance and where is the justice secretary or whatever Kens job is?

Eh? David Cameron was not Prime Minister of the United Kingdom when all the phone hacking occured. It all happened on the watch of the party currently on the opposite side of the table...

How is Cameron "irreparably damaged"?

By being a fool and ignoring all advice from opposition and his own corner about hiring someone with serious questions hanging over his head about fraud and illegality.

It's damage by association essentially, and he still has questions to answer himself. At the moment it would appear the higher echelons of the Met are the fall people at the moment.

uh, he was determined to employ coulson despite being persistently warned not to and the man is currently on police bail.

he regularly sucked up and took favours from the Murdochs and the Rebecca Brooks,

He is already a liability to the coalition. The decisions and actions he took can never be erased.
