You hit the nail on the head there foster, they was going for the subscription idea awhile back i remember it quite well but pulled out due to all the negative feedback so dismissed the idea to a later date.
So in that sense its just a matter of time before breaking the industry down to a point that if you want play, subscription will be the only way like wow.
My guess on that is around the new console era...

However Back to Karkand is NOT avaliable Day 1 nor even Week or Month 1 and will be distributed in the exact same way as BFBC2:Vietnam.
It is NOT disc-locked content as you suggested.

It is NOT like the VIP or SPECACT packs in any way. Were it to be distributed that way and released Day 1 I could understand your anger. However it is not and so your anger is baseless.

The Physical Warfare Pack is the pre-order special that will be released day 1 to pre-orders.

suggests that it will be released the same day that bf3 is to be released.

Not to mention the fact that the limited edition will include back to karkland

The Devs have said its not a launch day DLC. Its free to those that pre order, and extra £ to those that buy it after release.

You are either going to pre order or not, its your choice. Pre orders all ways get extras these day.

If you dont like it lump it.

I'm not sure why, but to me anything below 50 in BC2 feels 'slow'. Plus I can't handle the overdone BLOOM! Yes there is a sun, but it should make my image sharper not super reflective surfaces. :D

Game needs a console, just remembered the good old days:

"Guys what's yer fps?"
"100, why?"
"300 pwnz0r!"
"!!!?!??!"

Blackhawk swoops in caps point and carnage. :D

Yeah, that's perfectly fine. As long as your ping and jitter is low and there is no loss of packets, the connection is fine for gaming.

You don't need high bandwidth to play games online.

You can turn bloom off in the settings.ini file.

I think disabling the HBAO makes quite a difference in BC2.

I wonder if the lighting effects in BF3 will be as pronounced. In some maps in BC2 (Atacama) if you are facing a certain angle you cannot see anything for the bloom/sunlight/hbao effect. While this may be authentic, it is bloody annoying at times :(

One of the things that annoy me the most about bc2. There are times you just cant see a thing, you'd think there was a snow storm or solar flare event happening.
Can't say for certain but I'd say that sort of thing is client side too so while others may also get these effects they may not be getting them at the same time as you which leads to disadvantages.

Anyone know if having the mappack will be a prerequisite to playing on a server with karkand etc. on the playlist or will it just boot out those that dont have it when the map comes around?
