BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

You should still get more than ~2Mb unless your wireless is really knackered, though. My Wireless-G laptop gets ~22Mb. Wondering if maybe you've got a faulty homehub or modem.

Try to get hold of a laptop and an ethernet cable, I'd say. Just to try. If you're still getting crap speeds through that, it's not your wireless' fault and you need to speak to BT.

I've ordered a new PCI network card and will run a cable downstairs just to see what the speed is but I'll not be able to keep the cable there lol. I probably won't be able to do this until later this week but I'll let you all know :) Thanks for all the help.

He has a crappy USB adapter, mine can only pull 7meg and that's on top of the homehub

BT did not show up to install the bt business fiber. Turns out that BE cancelled the phone line and this caused the order to not work. I had my phone line with BE as well as inet, i gave bt the mac code on the 13th of june. I phoned up bt after they did not show up and they had little idea about the booking. Turns out they had to install a new BT line and sounded surprised about it. I had asked them several times about the line on the 13th june and they assured me it will be ok. Bt should have known the line was cancelled and called me up at least.

I really hope I can get this sorted. The internet disconnected last night and I couldn't reconnect so I'm going to fiddle about with it when I get home. I want download speeds of 30mb/s + lol.

I've disabled the auto channel search already and I haven't got BT FON enabled. I suppose the only way is wired but I doubt my mum will let me run cables to downstairs :(

Did you check what other wifi connections are using nearby though and then change the HH3 to use a vacant channel ?

After far too long on only 3MB download, this feels so good.

Pretty annoyed with BT at the moment, they called me on Friday asking me if I wanted BT Infinity and I said yes, they said it was available now and that I needed cancel with my current ISP and to get a MAC key from my ISP to give to BT.

I said no worries and arranged for them to call me back after the weekend to give me time to do all that so that I could provide them with the MAC Key.

They phone me back yesterday, a completely new person this time saying, "BT Infinity is coming to your area soon and we are wondering if you may well be interested?".

I was like..."hang on a minute...what do you mean soon??? One of your colleages called me up on Friday and said I could get it now so I've cancelled my internet"

They are going to listen to the recordings of phone calls made from them to me in the last week (there have been a lot in the last few months) to find out what's going on.

But basically they said I never should have been told that and I can't get BT Infinity yet.

The supervisor is going to call me back tonight.

Not impressed.

BT seem to be very inconsistent mate don't they?

My installation has been a disaster. :(

My engineer turned up and was great. Unfortunately due to the location of my master socket in my fuse cupboard by my front door and the internal wiring of my extension sockets, he was unable to relocate my BT master socket to my study.

I had two options available one was to run a cable around my hall and all the door frames and into my study, which I wasn't keen on due to recently painting my hall. The second was to disable all my other phone extensions which would then allow him to convert the extension in the study to be my only BT socket in the house which is no good as I have other devices around the house that are plugged in to other extensions.

So I'm in the process of cancelling everything (Infinity and Home Phone) and returning to O2. I won't get stung by any BT cancellation charges as the service hasn't completed and gone live.

This is what I'd do:

  1. Get a modified Solwise NTE5 faceplate. Fit this to the true master.
  2. Wire the extension you want to be the new master to the AB terminals on the rear of the modified faceplate (this will pass the signal through to the extension socket untouched). Regular BT faceplates don't offer this.
  3. Then, get another faceplate, whack this on your new extension, and wire the remaining extensions on the rear of this faceplate in the normal fashion.

E.g. Line -- Master --AB on faceplate -- Extension 1 --- regular "2 and 5" IDC terminals on second faceplate -- Extensions 2,3,4
