New open world PVP MMO Prime Battle For Dominus (DAOCish)

ok i've spent a few hours going over the details on the site and could this finally be a decent pvp mmo ?

Heres hoping :D Everything I have read so far just gets better and better and it at last looks like someone will take the pvp community seriously. Just found this quote and I swear this game is after my own heart :p

(From Sanya Weathers on PvP Forum) We haven't released the PVP infodump, so I don't want to get into too many details, but basically, arenas are just lower level places to have a little murderous fun while you're still on your homeworld. There may be rewards, but not gear and stuff like that.

Keep this great news coming, Tombstone you should like that tidbit as well :p I just like how its a small developer who will have to suit the fans to keep people interested rather than an EA/Acti who will give you whatever they want and expect you to be happy with it.

I like everything Sanya Thomas (she will always be sanya thomas to me not weathers ! :D ) has to say. She was one of my favourite Daoc employees (along with Matt Frior)

That's fine with me, played UO on us servers and played Daoc on us servers. Both with considerably worse internet connections than now so not a problem :)

To be honest if they want to make things a constant running battle and as large scale as possible then it's best to have merged euro/us servers. Battles around the clock and will stop people attempting sly captures when everyone else with a life as sleeping :p

Using the same engine as SWTOR.
Wouldn't it be ironic if Prime becomes more succesful than SWTOR? I've been on their forums since 2008 and the game is looking worse and worse, the only redeaming aspect is its starwars.
Prime on the other hand is being made by gamers who have a passion and have actually played all the old school ground breaking mmo's.

Short term it hasn't got a prayer. There is such hype around SWTOR it could play like Pong and still shift hundreds of thousands at launch. Longer term PB have the advantage of being a smaller firm and bring closer to the fans thus more able to give people what they say they want, A much more personal service. SWTOR has the advantage of ibsane monetary backing from EA so if something needs done to fix it they can afford it. The benefits for one are the drawback for the other, PB could suffer for lack of money and struggle to implement what the fans want. SWTOR has EA :p:( they will ship a garbage product and offer **** player support to maximise their profits, they don't really give a tiddlywink whether or not the fans are happy as long as they pay.

Personally I'm a lot more hyped for Prime due to it suiting what I want from a game (good pvp for once) but the majority want the wow model pve/casual that SWTOR is sticking too. I think even if Prime is the best pvp game ever it would obly do better than SWTOR if they balls up their launch, support and everything else (which could happen if they insist on rushing it and having everything channeled) then the majority of SWTOR players will migrate back to wow/rift/aion/lotro but I doubt Prime would tempt that player (thankfully :D)

One plus it will have over sw:tor is something that I talk about time and again. Expectations. The expectations of people trying prime will be close to nonexistent, as it was with Daoc, players will try it out not expecting much and that allows a lot of scope for pleasant surprise and also allows people to be a little more flexible, patient and forgiving. By contrast, sw:tor has possibly the highest expectations of any mmo ever released weighing on it, many people are fully expecting the combination of star wars and bioware to mean it will be the greatest mmo in the history of mmos. That kind of expectation is often very difficult to actually meet and often reduces the flexibility, patience and level of forgiveness of the players.

In essence its much easier to meet and exceed lower expectations than it is to meet and exceed higher expectations , and to a degree sw:tor is making a rod for its own back because there are many players out there who don't just have high expectations for swtor they have expectations which have reached orbit.

I reckon it'll be s slow burner of a game. People will race through SWTOR's content in a month or two, and this will be just waiting to pick up the dis-illusioned masses who are all too young to remember just how sodding awesome a proper massively multiplayer game was.

... remember just how sodding awesome a proper massively multiplayer game was.

This! This is what I want so bad, the sad thing is I cannot remember last time I played an MMO and have it feel MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER. I so badly want to see hundred onto hundred onto hundred battle slowly battling toward the goal, bodies everywhere with people working toward one continual goal. Not a battleground with morons screaming "just lose1!!1!!" as soon as the opposition get tv upperhand.

Last amazing pvp battle in any game I can remember was isle of gank in tbc wow. Me and a dozen or so guildies were holding the steep path to the inatabce against at least 50 horde :D we were really well organised and they were just trying to overwhelm us. At one point they almost overwhelmed us and our Druid used an aoe knockback sending about two dozen flying off the cliff to their doom :D it kept escalating and escalating until there was 2 ally raids holding this path against hundreds (not exaggerating) horde it :) it went on for about 3 hours and was still going as I logged for the night :) I want to see moments like this again, hence with what they have said so far is getting me so hyped.

This is the kind of stuff I miss, not the BS that is pre prepared pvp like arenas or whatever you want to call it. Open world random pvp - perhaps it starts with a gank, or a corpse camp which then escalates, and escalates into an all-out grudge war. Totally unplanned, no one is fighting for 'points' or whatever, just guild/faction/personal pride.

I can't wait for the next game to give us that in a decent, reasonably bug-free package, with a decent community and developers that are passionate about the game and actually listen and respect their playerbase without treating them with contempt.

Ah the days of proper skill based pvp . 50 of each reg few pots and a dyed death robe. What started as a pk death in destard on my bard to a full multi guild war that rages for hours and carried on for days . stealing / greifing/pking oh god pls somebody bring it back .

Order and choas . craft skills that were needed .non instanced dungeons .. serverdown wars ... it will never be the same but there is still a market for it . just nobody brave enough to make !!

i could probably have passed this doac screenshot off as this game and no one would have noticed lol...

I would. I have played DAOC for 10 years now and still love it :D

Nice image of a Celt Mauler in front of the King's Room at Tir na Nog! ;)

Really hope it's not too gear dependant. Obviously gear will have some impact but not the absurd impact it has in current mmo's where if you come up against someone better geared you are done for and skill doesn't really come into it.

On another note is daoc still up and what state is it in? Wouldn't mind some good pvp to tide me over.

Its still up, as far as I know all the servers were merged into one. Still the best factional PvP in an MMO around imo, but showing its age badly now (particularly the UI last time I played)

If this would give me a release date I might be happy enough to bide my time. At the moment everything that I want (BF3, GoW3 and this) are all too far away and i'm looking for something to tickle my fancy until then :)
