Horses on the road in the 21st century

Just as when I overtake funeral processions, I put it in 2nd gear, floor it and lean on the horn when passing.
I find the two-fingered salute out the window helps :)

In my experience, a lot of horse owners are obnoxious bar stewards.

Most of them are Chelsea tractor drivers, too.

There has to be a reason for that or is it an implied class thing?, and yes most have 4x4 as they are a working tool not a posing wagon.

Well here's a well balanced argument!

Guess what, there are rude horse riders too.

Indeed there are good and bad in all, was it the cylists comment that prompted that reply?

I'd love to see people riding dragons and unicorns!

It's england though, it'd be donkeys.

The worst thing where I live are groups of cyclists out on a weekend in their latex riding in mass groups at 10 to 20 mph. Sometimes the group is bigger than an hgv and on our roads there aren't many safe passing places.

Wow, i thought our bdsm cyclists round here were bad! :p

I don't see the problem. Roads aren't just for cars and being 21st century. We should be legalising more vehicles on the road. electric skate boards, scooters, segways and another cheap transport solution for short journeys. That most people use a car for, but don't really need to and as petrol continues to increase I think more and more people would be interested in such contraptions and keeping a car for longer journeys or when you need to carry stuff.

Exactly. Segways would be great for short journeys but UK Gov has their head buried in the sand.

Cars should form a lesser part of road use in the 21st Century not more!

If the roads were well maintained they'd be great for everyone. But they're not. There's also the problem of the roads being full of drivers. And most drivers have an exaggerated belief in their own ability and everyone else's inability.

+1, love it

Don't see horses very often on the roads and not as many as I remember seeing as a kid, maybe horse owners themselves are much more aware of how busy roads are now ad dont want to take their horses on roads.

But a couple of months back, was going somewhere and had to stop WAY back because there was a horse that was having a total skitz in the middle of the road, kicking out, bucking, trying to get away from the girl who had obviously jumped down to grab its reins and try and get control of it.

If the horse isn't used to the road and/or doesn't have the right temperament it can be blooming dangerous - if a car had been going past it when it decided to have a strop... I wouldn't want a horse's hoof through my windscreen, that's for sure. Horses can be just as dangerous as cars and I don't think the two of them on the road together isn't necessarily a good mix.

A working tool? How is a Range Rover sport driven by a tart to take her daughter to school and to the stables a working tool? :o

Although true and I am sure there are some bad owners who take horses our on the road when they really shouldn't, how do you know it wasn't a really bad car driver which had spooked the horse before you got there?

Once my gf with her road sound horse got thrown and the horse was bucking and rearing all over. The reason? A stupid extremely low flying jet had just gone over her head and spooked the horse out.
