BBC3 content is really not for me. I prefer programmes that don't make me feel like I've had a lobotomy. The only decent programme I've seen from BBC3 is the one about junior doctors that got moved to BBC2.

I'm surprised anyone can like some of the mindless crap on BBC3.

True or not, the answer to your question 'why?' is that I love the BBC's coverage of the F1 and don't want to have to pay for Sky to watch it, both rational reasons I'd have thought. Of course it's expensive, but that doesn't change the fact that I'll be disappointed if they don't renew.
 
Well they probably could merge a couple of channels into one.

BBC Three has some good stuff like Family Guy, and I think Bizarre ER used to be on it too?
 
Premier league rights cost more than F1, BBC only have highlights of football, F1 races get more viewers than motd yet F1 is the one to go?

Ok production costs of F1 are huge, but ITV have no chance of getting it back and very likely they wouldnt want it back they couldnt make money from it the last time they had it. Are channel 5 and 4 likely to want to spend that much on sports rights along with high production costs?

Watching F1 with adverts is intensely annoying. You come back after an ad break and it's 'and while you've been away Hamilton has crashed and Button has regained the lead'.
 
Nooooo F1 :(.

Get rid of Chris Evans, Jonathan Ross, etc. That'd be a good few quid saved. Scrap BBC 3, BBC 4, BBC Asian Network, etc. That's a few quid saved.

No they dont, radio rights are seperate, bbc pay £57 million a year just for the tv highlights!

It's impossible to dictate to the BBC that they must be broadcasting 'for the greater good' as that's what caused ITV to come about, people were bored of what men in suits declared as good for them. It has to be able to operate as a company and make it's own decicions on what to broadcast, or it'll be doomed.

A better solution to this debacle would have been to ween the BBC off the license fee and turn it into a commercial entity.
