Well as above really, I'm doing BSc (Hons) Business Information Technology at Salford University, and I shall be starting my dissertation in September, or October.

Currently I've not got a clue about what I am going to base it on, all I know is apparently I should include "exploration" in the title, as that apparently makes it easier from what I am told.

Any help on coming up with a title would be good, I'm wanting to get some research done earlier to make my life easier when it comes to next year at uni, and perhaps by doing the research now I may be better organised and less stressed.

Cheers.

Any areas of Business Information Technology at Salford University that particularly interested you?

To be honest I don't have a specific interest which ain't the best start, I like technology in general.

Did a module called rich media and that was interesting, it was based on HLC, HCI and ERM as well as production of a product and using storyboards and applying HCI into the media product.

How about:

"Exploration of OCUK GD thread, in which for some reason I asked for serious advice, in order to locate useful responses among a sea of juvenile tosh like this [1]."

And then ref 1 can be...

[1]
Anal Exploration : An Analysis of Alien Abductions ? :p

Can you have a ref in the title though? Hmmmm

:) :)

It's worth narrowing things down to areas/modules that were of particular interest to you, especially if you've done more background reading in said area or can recall/think of specific reference texts and sources. Even better still perhaps a module you enjoyed that is pioneered by a lecturer who's written in the field, you could pull up their research as a primary point of reference and expand upon it, plus I'm sure they'd be liable to discuss it with you in some depth and give you some good pointers and directionality?

What? How can we possibly tell you what to do your dissertation on? People better positioned to guide you are your coursemates and your tutors.

Think of one yourself your the one doing the dissertation!

Don't they give you a list of topics and ask you to pick one?

Some universities recommend some titles if you are unable to choose one for yourself.

For example, I decided to do an e-commerce site for a Birmingham company. Bare in mind I did Computer Science, which is a bit different to the above.

I would recommend looking through some old coursework to see if anything stands out.

All else fails, just do the lame research paper choice :p

I've being thinking of titles and I'm leaning towards something related to social media.

I was thinking of possible incorporating my hobby into it (cycling), so maybe, the impact of social media on cycling.

But I also had an idea of possible doing a dissertation that explores the technology used in the cycling world, such as in TdF, all the communication stuff and media.

The only problem with this is that it appears that there is not that much information on the internet, I was looking on emerald and have not found much.

Now I know there is loads of information on social media and business though.

I'm abit scared I don't know how I'm going to come up with 10,000 words.

The impact of social media on Cycling sounds fascinating i cant wait to see your work published

I did Information Technology which was weighted towards the more business side of things and done "How could the development and widespread use of RFID technology benefit business worldwide?".
Purely because RFID tagging and the like is something that interests me.
Don't worry about the words, I'm not a massive writer I'm very much a why write a paragraph when a sentence will do sort of person and I managed it no problem.

you could possibly do something about exploration as to why large scale projects fail and take the NHS IT project as a case study ?

and then have a section exploring methodology that could / should be employed to prevent such failures moving forward ?

I don't think I want to do about project failure, for an assignment in second year I had to write about the failure of the Channel Tunnel project, It was around 2500 words and I found it quite hard to be honest.

Efour2, is that your way of saying it's a crap thing to do a dissertation on or are you being genuine? My detectors are offline.

I'm pretty sure he's being sarcastic. Don't get me wrong, "The impact of social media on cycling" might actually be an interesting study (I'm a cyclist too) but it doesn't sound like the study would have much academic worth and the "on cycling" part really seems like its been pulled from thin air. (perhaps exercise might be better). What's more, is that there really is no business element - "The impact of social media on cycling" would be more suited to a technology-sports degree. If you're interested in social media, I might suggest something along the lines of looking at how social media has impacted the leisure industry, and look into specific cases to do with cycle shops etc.

Ok, so as much as I like cycling, it seems I'm probably just making life harder for myself doing that.

I'm thinking of doing it more towards just social media and business, because it's obvious businesses are increasingly using social media for advertising, stuff travels very fast and a lot of breaking news is revealed first on such networks like Twitter and due to the ever increasing popularity of smart phones, I've found journals on twitter and facebook, probably got a wealth of information on it.

Just need to focus the title properly now I think.
