Morons.

That's very true, oriental is the correct term, or just call them from where they're from. The "Asian" thing is an American thing though, I think it's literally a case of "Not black, not white, not "Native American", must be "Asian".

Aren't Asian people from Asia?

And who gave them that label? Yep, the Americans

It still stands that the Chinese don't like being called Asian, they prefer just to be called Chinese, or Oriental at a push

I dont really like it when people mention names of game developers in the pc games forum.

I couldnt care less about the name of some dude who designed the lighting in metal gear solid. But the people in that forum seem to align them with a list celebrities. Its just weird to me and makes me cringe every time.

I play games a LOT but I don't put some daylight shirker on a pedestal.

Yeah I get that there are some big people in game design, people like that guy who did Mario. But in that forum its always some guy who designed a game map or something.
"that guy who did Mario" says it all, its no more different than liking certain film producers/directors or sport team coaches, etc.. i think you are the one with an issue here rather than the people you talk down at, your the only moron here.

Perhaps I'm being titularly moronic, but I still don't understand: wasn't Asia (the continent) around for a bit of a time before America was founded?

The term "Asia" is originally a concept exclusively of Western civilization.[14] The peoples of ancient Asia (Chinese, Japanese, Indians, Persians, Arabs etc.) never conceived the idea of Asia, simply because they did not see themselves collectively. In their perspective, they were vastly varied civilizations, contrary to ancient European belief.[14]

I guess it depends weather you are talking about geographical continents or actual countries, and how far back in history you want to go. Technically we are part of the eurasian super continent, but we don't call ourselves that.

I don't think the Chinese and Japanese like being called Asian any more than the Brazilians would like being called American.

Very interesting. I'll have to remember all this so I don't insult anybody!

A dude I work with was filling in a finance form with a customer and I overheard him trying to work out which month December was. He was counting upwards and I had to stop him at June. "12 Lawrence, December is the last of the 12 months". I'm convinced he's retarded.

A girl my wife knows said to her on Friday:

Oh my boyfriend earned 37k last year but only 14k went through the books (he's a self employed brick layer), that means we get nearly £800 per month in benefits....you two should have another kid and reduce your working hours....its worth it!!!!!!!!!!

It really makes my **** boil when i hear stuff like this, my wife and i work to provide for our family and pay the appropriate amounts of tax etc, then someone earning more than the both of us put together earns is fiddling and not paying that much tax into the system and then has the nerve to claim all that lot in benefits

GRRRRRRRRR :mad::mad::mad::mad:

Probably worth reporting them, i would imagine it was pretty difficult to hide 23k on a 14k salary with only creative accounting

A few years ago my geography teacher taught the class that there were £2 to every $1 approximately. Ignoring the fact that it wasn't on a 2:1 ratio any more she had still got it the wrong way around. I pointed it out but as teachers do, she had none of it. I still expected that I would have put some doubt in her mind though and she would look it up after the lesson or something.

My sister came home from school one day this year and she has the same teacher, who had taught her about how there was still £2 to every $1.

It just astounded me.

I would imagine that much of that would have been "cash in hand", which is how you get around only putting so much through the books.

A couple of mates (male, sorry to break the trend) were talking about the whole Newscorp drama. I thought that I'd just be quiet and see what they have to say about it, as those two talking about news is very rare and often entertaining.

Mate A: "******* shocking that whole Milly Dowler phone hacking thing"

Mate B: "Yeah, it's sick man"

Mate A: "That's the thing with those sorts of newspapers, they're just corrupt and full of crap. All owned by that same guy, it's not right"

Mate B: "Yeah, totally"

Mate A: "I never buy papers, I just go on sky news on my phone, job done"

Me:   :( :D

I didn't saying anything. Just continued with my beer. Well, maybe with a little smirk.
