Gave parking ticket to someone else and now being threatened with a fine

Learn something new every day, I've never thought twice about giving someone my ticket.

I couldn't believe it when he said it. It's like being fined for being nice.

He probably got my reg and car make/model but he didn't ask for my name or address and I didn't give him any such information.

Can he use my reg to send a fine to my home address? I'll be moving house in a couple of weeks and hopefully have sold the car as well.

I've being going over my options and obviously one of them is to just own up to it but I also thought that I could just say that it wasn't my fault if the woman didn't buy a ticket. But possibly passing the fine on to someone else is a bit harsh.

They need to prove it was a ticket that you handed over. I'd just forget about it for now.

In West Bridgford (Notts), Rushcliffe have made all their ticket machines request a registration number to prevent the ghastly practice of passing on a paid for ticket. £1000 pound fine is not enough imho to prevent this vile action and any perpetrators should really be flogged in public to within an inch of their puny lives. Disgraceful maggots on the apple of society.

There’s enough crime in the UK without you adding to it, criminal!

thats rubbish. you paid for a service (to park). If you decided to give your ticket which was paid for in full, for no charge to another than thats up to you as far as im concerned. No where does it say that you cannot transfer to another.

Jumped up little git imo

Rant over

Unless there are any signs in the car park clearly stating that you are not allowed to give tickets to other users of said car park then just play stupid and say there should be a sign.

Parking tickets are non-transferable. It's technically fraud.

But, frankly, anywhere that enforces that are a bunch of ****** whelk ***** badgering ****** monkeys.
But even if enforced the fraud would be being committed by the person using the ticket.

I'm pretty sure the tickets say 'Non transferable' on them, but a £1000 fine is a bit harsh :\

Non-transferable tickets are completely uneccessary. If you pay for a parking ticket to use a parking space, what does it matter what car is using the space?

Just another way to try and screw money out of motorists when there is no need.

it was an NHS hospital car park so I'm not sure if that's public/council or private :S

From what people are saying they would need to prove I actually gave her my ticket and they can't do much anything otherwise. So looks like denial is the way to go for now.

Thanks for all the suggestions

it's only the numerical bit which seems a bit daft

Well it works unless you happen to give your ticket to someone with the same numbers. Saw a old timer in the one next to the Library the other day get to the machine and start getting really wound up with it. He had clearly forgotten his number plate, so off he trudged back to his car again. By the time he got to the front of the que and the machine, he seemed to have forgotten it again. In the end he drove his car to the ticket machine and did it like that lol.

You live in WB Rotty ?

from the above,

if its private parking you can safely ignore, if its council they will have to prove you gave her your ticket, Say it was your phone number, move on with your life.

Only the police or local councils can give out legally enforceable parking fines, as this is NHS it'll just be some private parking company working on their behalf.
None of whatever they may threaten you with would hold up before a court, just forget about it. See here

ps: - I particularly like the new private parking outfit listed there
'PMSL Parking Ltd' :D

As it's NHS carpark, tell him to do one, and don't worry about it.

In future, just stick your ticket, back on the front of the machine for the next person.
