****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Anyone know how to permanently disable noise cancellation during phone calls? When its on a lot of people say they can hear themselves...

Id been hoping it would resolve itself with different roms but still got the same problem.

Call quality is fine when its off and I don't want to send the phone back over it?

I haven't installed any updates since about 2 weeks after the phone was released, because Kies annoyed me so much.

Are there other ways to do it?

By using Odin. But you are more likely to break things with that, it's not really an 'end user' tool although very easy to use. But if you flash the wrong file to the wrong place then you can break things.

Have a look at one of the ROM guides on XDA (like VillianROM), it will tell you how to use it.

Are you using a case? Apparently this is a common feature with the SGS2 when you have a case (another reason not to have one!).

I do but its the official mesh case.. Surely it doesn't happen with that too? I'll give it a try anyway (:

Worth trying without. Some other solutions on XDA were to flash to a later ROM but for some people nothing worked apart from replacing the handset. I saw these problems when I was looking up sound quality issues on my own dodgy handet.

beats the hell outa any phone out there, was my first choice, htc desire hd was second, went with multimedia biased n8, well, camera was the thing i use the most, but still would love a galaxy s2, n8 hybrid, or.. just camera addon onto samsung :D

I have not had any complaints about echoing voices on mine and the mesh case is on 24/7.

Well I just tested without the case a couple of times and there was no echo, but guess what... none with the case on either!

Really annoying me D:

I hate that I have to wait for the call to connect before I can disable it too!

it a hit and miss thing. i'm still sticking with mine simply because i can't be without this phone for a few weeks whilst samsung decide if it's broke but it's a right pita! i used to use the s-line case which was the worst now just the official mesh one and it's better but still when bad it's bad. other person just hears themsevles and i sound like i'm holding my hand over my mouth

As cm7 isn't touchwiz based can anyone who has it installed tell me if you still have the same noise cancellation options during a phone call?

Hi folks,

I've had my phone about a month now and absolutely love it. I now want to have a go at rooting and try a custom rom. I have read loads of threads on rooting but as I am new to android I just want to clarify a couple of things before I start and make a complete hash of it. The actual process of rooting seems pretty simple with odin and oneclick. I am just a little confused about which kernal to root with.

My phone's kernal version is: I9100BUKE5

When reading this thread I can't find that one listed so I am unsure which to download and use.

Secondly, I am quite keen to try lightning rom. In its instructions it doesn't mention needing to root it first. In which case do I just follow the instructions there or does the phone need pre-rooting?

You can tell from the questions I'm an android noob... :)

Cheers

One thing worth noting is that if you are messing around with ROMs on the phone, it's always best to read the threads, especially the first time. :p

From the thread 'Help! Which file do I use ?' section:
If there's no match and I'm not making one, try finding the closest match. You should treat "KG1" as a number, but instead of 1-9, we have 1-9, A-Z (where A would be 10, and Z would be 35). "KG2" is really close to "KG1", "KF1" is not close to "KG1" at all. I hope that makes sense.

yes, follow the instructions. you do not need root to install full roms as they are usually installed using odin (pc software) and putting the phone in to download mode.

samsung are knocking KGx firmeware out at quite a rate (we're on kg3 now) so im holding fire with custom roms and just sticking to the samsung firmware, but lite'ning rom is very nice :)
