Yep, not only was it part of the world (future where China and US were the major superpowers and everyone knows both languages) but it was a snazzy way of getting some language past the censors :D

I watched the film (Serenity) last night after watching the series (Firefly) for the first time recently.

Firstly - how did this ever become a major picture? It seems to make quite a lot of expectations that the viewer has seen Firefly, which is and odd approach considering the show itself wasn't watched by many....surely making it a direct-to-DVD would have been better?

Not that I'm complaining, I just don't understand the reasoning behind it, it was always going to struggle.

Otherwise, I enjoyed it :) Obvious a bigger budget was involved! I wish they'd have dug a little deeper into the characters - its like they scratched the surface with the series and I expected more from the movie...but I guess that was due to trying to cater for both new/existing viewers.

**** MAJOR SPOILER ALERTS******DO NOT READ BELOW THIS POINT************

WTF...they killed Wash! Seriously, after that I was wondering how many were going to die. Especially after Shepard.

Also - liked it that we found out more about the Reavers, River, saw a darker side to Mal and its good to see the Kaylee/Simon saga sort itself :)

On the downside - I expected more of Inara, especially her 'relationship' with Mal. There was no (or very little) reference to it, it'd have been nice to have that wrapped up in someway, especially after the "Heart of Gold" episode in Firefly.
We never got to find out about Shepard and his history. I didn't want a full explaination, but I always thought he was going to be some bad-ass "monk type" underneath who could really hold his own in a fight. Again, small reference said to Mal that he'd never tell about his past. Boo.

I'd have liked to have seen more of Inara and Shepard in the whole movie - they were always the two that seemed to contradict the rest of the crew and added that extra bit of conflict/spice, whether spiritually or emotionally.

In terms of the main plot, it was decent and very watchable. Seems a bit of a cop-out at the end though, when they just decide "probably not to bother" with River...you know, after everything thats happened and the fact she's some amazing, kick-ass weapon. Didn't make any sense.

Still, enjoyed it! Want more now :(

Awsome Firefly,Serenity, Chuck blu rays on their way :D

Just wish they would do more audio commentaries/special features for these american tv shows :(

Sorry but this has been bugging me, why does the title say "still worthy of a watch?". What did you think might of happened? That it had Been edited into a black and white soap opera with Klingon subtitles?

As an aside... if anyone is wondering what the fuss is about, I'm selling Firefly and Serenity on DVD in the Member's Market.

Right, just done some research on whether the US/Canadian Firefly Blu-ray releases are region free/independent and I think they are.

http://regionfreemovies.com/bluray/Firefly_-_Complete_Series
http://movietyme.blogspot.com/2008/11/firefly-complete-series-region-free.html

I've compared the US and Canadian prices of Firefly on Blu-ray. The US version is US $55.49 which works out to about GB £36.52. The Canadian version is CA $39.99 which is about GB £25.02. Time to email Uncle Don and ask for a favour. :D

is a ps3 region coded for blu ray?

Or is it like the old region free dvd players?

Just had another look on PlayUSA.com on both the US and Canadian dollar formats and Firefly Blu-ray is now saying its R1 only, i.e. North American Blu-ray players only. :(

It's awesome, a bit weird in parts, but awesome nonetheless and to be fair, the weirdness just adds to the unique feel of the show. Had so much potential. :(

Just make sure you watch all of Firefly before watching Serenity.

EPIC , best show ever , was strangled at birth by retarded tv execs

I know what people want , they want a show aired IN THE WRONG order ......

Its the uk version exclusive to amazon the region free blurays been on play for ages

"Firefly - The Complete Series (Exclusive to Amazon.co.uk) [Blu-ray]"

I'm guessing so. :p

I wonder if there's anything different. The American version has upscaled special effects which look pap when plated together with the HD footage. It just looks like a blurry ness. So I guess some redone sfx would be nice, but it's highly doubtful.

I also wonder if there's any difference in the special features or menus?
