New kitteh moving in - gimme your top tips!

Got mine one, he just stares at it for a while then gets bored :(

Jcb33.

Yeah different cats want to play with different toys. Spock (our ginger) loves toys with tassels on, laser pens and those tiny tennis balls with like hessian material on them.

Ophelia (our black) will almost exclusively play with the tops off of the food we buy. It comes in tetra packs and you just tear the top off. She'll play with one of them for hours. I lifted the sofa up once to have a clean and found 20 of the things under there.

Yoda (white/black one) on the other hand will play with just about anything that moves.

Best cat toy tip ever: Go and buy a pack of drinking straws from ikea. Cats go mental playing with drinking straws. Its esp good for kittens who like to gnaw on the plastic to soothe their teeth.

Don't feed them after midnight, and don't get them near water. EVER.

why and why out of interest?

the food thing doesn't make sense to me but the water thing? Some cats are fine with water. Yoda sticks his whole head under the tap.

EDIT: doh.

Hehe, mine (McKay) likes a few things but tends to get bored easily, the 3 things that will keep him going are, small foam balls, a fish on a stick and elastic bands.

He wont leave the above alone, and even loves to play fetch with his ball!

Waste of money. She'll scratch what she wants to scratch, regardless of what you buy.

Your understanding of feline behaviour is fail. I presume you give a nonchalant swat at cats that are clawing at your furniture, thus giving them the exact attention they were seeking in the first place.

Buy multiple scratching posts and keep them in problem areas. Nothing big or fancy, just something they can sink their claws in to.

Yeah, why is that? One of ours plucked the straw out of an empty milkshake and played with it for hours! One of our other cats loves hair "bobbles" - you know the small ones for holding a ponytail.....plays fetch until he starts panting and we have to take it away :)

my kitten loves playing with biros - a bit like straws i guess. Must be the shape and the way that it moves that they find fascinating. Also, laptop keyboard seems to be the favourite place to nap. It's warm, and i obviously like it so Albert thinks it's cool too!

if its a crap post then yeah they will. Our three all use theirs because its big enough for them to actually use and stable enough for them to be comfortable with.

Cats claw furniture because it's big enough for them to stretch themselves and stable enough because it doesn't move and they can feel the wood underneath. Give them something else to do it on that meets the right specs and they will.

Cheap posts wobble and are no where near large enough.
