New kitteh moving in - gimme your top tips!

She seems to really like the applaws kitten food, which is no surprise because it appears to have proper pieces of chicken in it. Trouble is, she's all runny now but we've had to change to kitten milk too because we ran out of goats milk so it could be that...............or the effects of the jab/worming etc? Dunno :(
 
Well, I spoke to the vets and they said the worming tablet is the most likely cause, but..........the kitten milk packet says that they've removed the 'majority' of the lactose so that might not be ideal. Ill go and see if I can get some goats milk.

She's visiting her food bowl quite frequently as well................ but still being a complete nutter! :D
 
The kitten milk will be better for her I think.

Her being runny is probably a combination of the new milk, as well as a new brand of food and the worming tablet. As long as she's eating and drinking and doesn't seem dehydrated (grab her scruff, if it springs back quickly after you let go then she's OK, if it stays looking pinched for a while then she may be dehydrated), then just give a few days. She'll be OK, kittens have really sensitive tummies when they're little and any changes usually has this effect.

Like I say give her a few days then if you're still worried, talk to your vet again.
 
If you are giving her Applaws wet food, in a can, that is the highest quality wet cat food I have come across. It also happens to be the most expensive. Are you sure you want to go down the road of feeding Applaws?

Thanks, I'll keep an eye on her. She's still in very high spirits!

I'm not sure about the kitten milk though, especially the suggestion that it may still contain some lactose. I've got some more goats milk now so I think that's better because it is what she is used to. Its also very cheap.

No you're right, its ok while she's small but will quickly get expensive. I'll probably use it in small amounts as bait to get her eating more dried food because she hasn't been quite so keen on that and its what I would prefer to leave out during the day for her.

On a cuter note, she purred at me for the first time today and sat on Mrs W's lap last night for quite a while. :)

Yeah, I just bought one can of the kitten one for her to try and mixed it with some of the Hills dry sruff that the vet gave me. The rest of the time she's been having the home made stuff the farmer gave us. Just been looking at that zooplus site someone posted earlier and the Bozita and Animonda wet stuff looks good quality and reasonably priced.
 
There are plenty of good quality foods.
You have to buy what suits your budget.
Don't buy into what some other cat lovers say in insisting on the best.

The Applaws wet food, by weight is probably more expensive than good quality steak...that's something that doesnt sit well with me, which is why I don't buy Applaws wet food (even though it is the best out there).

Natures Menu, Hi-Life, Bozita is all good stuff. You just have to find a food that your cat is happy with.

For example, I have tried my cats on Applaws dry food and Orijen (these are the highest quality dry foods on the market), but my 2 can't seem to digest these 2 foods. Hence, I dropped back to the lower quality Hills Science. But this works fine for my 2 cats.

Just remember, it isn't just about buying the best quality food - you have to think about cost and whether or not your cats will eat it or not and also if it agrees with their stomach.

What you could do is buy a 2-3 packs of various foods and try your cat on those. Then pick the one that she feels most comfortable. There are plenty of good quality cat foods out there and not all of them are super expensive.
 
Really good advice, thanks. I was definitely going to try different stuff with her and ideally I'd like to avoid just giving her the same thing all the time.

It seems at the moment that she's not very keen on either of the dry foods we've tried. Even if I mix it with wet food that she likes, she'll eat most of the wet food and leave the dry. She's happily eaten each of the wet foods we've given her so far though.
 
My cats were the same.
On day1, neither of my cats wanted to eat any dry food.
Wet food however, they would eat with no issue.

My Egyptian Mau didnt eat anything for about 24 hours. I offered it all the dry food samples I had. Then, I brought out 1 sachet of Hills Science wet food and he ate all of it with aggression.
