Been trying to get the temps down on this cpu.
i5 2500k / Asrock p67 Extreme6
I have an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 CPU Cooler. Which on my old i5 670 was spot on it was oc'ed at 4.5ghz with load temps of prime and intel burntest of around 65c.
On the new i5 with the standard asrock 4.6ghz settings im getting nearly 90c at times with intel burn test. Needless to say i stopped the test at that point.
Max volts were 1.4 at that point.
I have left speedstep and such likes alone until i can get the temps down more under load. Then switch them off and try for more.
I orginally had akasa 455 thermal compound, now im on Arctic silver 5 and used the cleaners etc. It maybe dropped my temps by a few degrees c.
Is the only option to go watercooled?
what temps are others getting on air?
Am i getting a good thermal joint between the chip and sink?
Other info in my sig.....
